Okay, these are really cool. I always made fun of those people who use poles. NOW I am a believer. They really help. So I went to REI and purchased some of these. Pretty cool features, like made by Komperdell, duolocks (so you can lock out the anti-shock).

My only complaint is the rather small handgrip. Don't get these if you have big hands.

Retailers' Descriptions

Here's what other sites are saying:

Loaded with features, these light and strong aluminum trekking poles reduce fatigue while improving stability. Made from 7075-T6 aluminum for durability with a light carry weight. Anti-shock springs soften the impact, reducing muscle and tendon strain; lock-out improves downhill performance. DuoLocks™--internal locking mechanisms--apply a wide area of pressure against pole walls to lock in length adjustment. DuoLocks showed 50% more holding power than other locking mechanisms during REI lab tests. Three-section telescoping poles extend to a maximum length of 55'' and compact to 28'' for easy storage and transport. EVA foam grips with an ergonomic, contoured shape are easy to hold; extended grip length allows pole to be held low during short side hill traverses. Adjustable padded neoprene wrist straps add support. Fitted with trekking disks and extra-durable tungsten carbide tips; rubber tip protectors included.
