Have worn alone and as a great base or mid layer over the lightweight crew neck short sleeve shirt of the same type.

Very comfortable and I love the Turtle Neck Collar with the zip. Covers neck on the inside of jacket collar or zips open for some needed ventilation when sometimes worn alone or as the outside layer.

Not too heavy, not too light, just right.

The snug but not restrictive fit allows the fabric to stay close and attached (touching) my skin so as to work as it best can, which is very good at moving moisture away from the skin and not allowing drafts up inside the shirt.

Yes, I would recommend this and yes, I would buy again from REI.
