I like this shoe for dayhikes and weekenders, but…

Rating: rated 4 of 5 stars
Materials: Leather
Use: Dayhikes
Break-in Period: 2 months, 2-3 hour dayhikes
Weight: 180 lbs.
Price Paid: $65

I like this shoe for dayhikes and weekenders, but not for anything longer. The toecap is easily compressable, there's not as much ankle support as I'd like. On that note, the ankle support issue has only popped up a few times, and the toecap will hold against exposed roots and small rock. Overall, a good shoe for short trips.

The big differences between Salomon's Extend Mid and almost any other similarly-priced lightweight day hiking shoe are the ergonomic stability and support. Salomon uses a patented Advanced Chassis design that helps minimize lateral movement and provide better stability than lightweight boots that depend on EVA and nylon midsoles. The result is control and confidence in every stride. Beneath it all is a high traction Mountain Contagrip outsole featuring braking lugs and deep channels for pushing water away from the bottom of the Extend Mid. Whether you're hiking, camping or running around in the park, Salomon's Extend Low is a superb shoe for any reason and any season.
