rated 2.0 of 5 stars

The GTX has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

photo: Salomon GTX backpacking boot

This is a half leather boot, with fabric inserts and a plastic wrap around for the lace supports. The sole is probably the only good point, a fairly hard 'Contragrip' unit which grips well on wet rock and mud.

Unfortunately the materials' quality is abysmal. After 12 months light usage the lining and waterproof membrane has disintegrated, and the fabric portions of the uppers have developed holes where the boot flexes.

Given the price and size of the company, extremely poor. Only the sole saves it from 1 star.
