Overall good quality gaiters to keep the rain out of your boots and protect the legs from scratches and snake bite.

Pros

  • 450D polyester to protect against scrapes and snakes
  • Strong front opening hook and loop
  • Easily adjustable
  • Stay in place

Cons

  • Shoelace type straps are next to useless if you trail is rocky

Have put these gaiters through their paces on a couple of tough hikes including the short but very challenging Devil’s Peak. They are easily adjustable, front opening hook and loop is very strong and will not come undone and once properly adjusted stay in place without moving around or sliding down your legs with help from some elastic just below the knee and draw cord at the top. The 450D polyester did its job well protecting my legs from scratches and scrapes through some harsh terrain including scrambling over sharp edged rocks.

Another hazard of the Australian bush is our large variety of deadly snakes with 7 of the top 10 deadliest in the world waiting for hikers once the winter chill turns to spring and summer warmth. These gaiters would certainly add extra protection in the event of a snake bite and may prevent an emergency. I would highly recommend gaiters for any hike on narrow tracks in areas with lots of scrub.

On the down side the shoelace type straps are next to useless if you’re hiking on anything sharper than crushed gravel. Mine wore through after three hikes with the sharp rocks of Devil’s Peak proving too much.
