The Sierra Designs Backcountry Quilt 800 2-Season…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $259

Summary

The Sierra Designs Backcountry Quilt 800 2-Season is a great top quilt for hammock camping. When used with a hammock underquilt, you can comfortably hammock camp down into the mid 20s, or using it without the underquilt, use it into evenings into the 60s.

Pros

  • Excellent design
  • Built-in hidden hood
  • Well constructed

Cons

  • None

The Backcountry Quilt by Sierra Designs is great addition to my ENO DoubleNest and Blaze underquilt.

Loved the built-in hood. It is exactly what I wanted. The footbox is comfortable and prevents the quilt from creeping off. With its included stuff sack and breathable loose storage bag, the Backcountry Quilt is easy to pack for your trip and easy to store when one returns home.

A lightweight alternative to a sleeping bag, this quilt is a great choice for warm-weather backcountry trips. It's filled with warm 800-fill-power DriDown, which is regular down that's been treated to create a hydrophobic finish on each individual down plume. This allows DriDown to stay dry longer, loft better, and dry faster than untreated down, keeping you warm. Oversized design gives you more room to move, more coverage and more warmth. Insulated arm and hand pockets provide insulation under your arms and allows freedom of movement to pull the quilt around your body like you would a blanket. Hide-away hood insulates your head on cool nights. Shell is made from 20D ripstop nylon, liner from soft 20D nylon taffeta. Imported. Dimensions 76" x 46". Weight 1 lb. 7 oz. Fits to 6'4". Packed size 14" x 7".

The Sierra Designs Backcountry Quilt 800 Sleeping Bag is an excellent companion for ultralight backpacking trips. With 800-fill duck down insulation stuffed throughout this quilt, you'll stay warm in this sleeping bag, even in temperatures as low as 30F. Compared to other backpacking quilts, this one has an oversized design for increased comfort that helps prevent you from slipping out of it while you're sleeping. It also has some unique features designed for comfort on cold nights, like a comfy hideaway hood and corner 'mitts' that help you pull the bag around you if you're a side sleeper and keep your hands toasty. The quilt weights a mere pound and a half to appease all you ultralight backpackers out there; just be sure to bring a sleeping pad if you want some insulation under your body during your trip. Sierra Designs made the Backcountry Quilt's shell out of ripstop for durability that keeps the bag light, and the liner out of taffeta for extra comfort while you rest. Sierra Designs treated the insulation with DriDown to give the bag water-resistant protection so you stay dry when condensation seeps in through your tent.
