I don't know why this tent never got beyond the "promo"…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Design: three-season
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: can set up easily in less than two minutes .
Weight: 4 lbs , 13 oz.
Price Paid: USED

I don't know why this tent never got beyond the "promo"
stage, it is fantastic! I have used it in Colorado Mtns. above timberline and in the Utah deserts; it has never failed me.
This tent is roomy for two persons and has an adequate vestibule. The tent, with poles, fly and stakes, weighs less than 5 lbs. and it has held up in wind, rain and snow!

It an excellent quality tent and I will wear it out before I ever buy anything else!

After reading some of your reviews I decided on this…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Design: 3 season freestanding modified dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: easiest possible, under 5 minutes
Weight: less than 5 lbs total
Price Paid: $149

After reading some of your reviews I decided on this instead of a new Orion or Cosmos (thought about a used Polaris also) -- price and weight deciding factors -- and ordered direct from Sierra Designs in Eureka, Calif., in May '98.

Design is 3 poles, side-entry with door that opens to the side (no dirt tracked in) and roomy vestibule. Maiden voyage cross-country was the test (Rhode Island to Orcas Islands, May-June) and it couldn't have proved better. After initial seam sealing it was absolutely dry, comfortable, compact, easy to set up/take down, exactly the tent I wished for. Warm enough on a cool night, breathes fine on a warm one. Dries quickly after rain, no leaks at all; rainfly design did not allow any drips/puddles. After a month of travel and lots of setups it's still in great shape.

Probably not the best tent for people over 6 feet tall... I'm 5'7" and had plenty of room. Two people sharing would be fine if you can travel light. Looking forward to an autumn trip!

I was looking for the lightest, freestanding 2-person…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Design: lightweight 3 season
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: easy
Weight: 4 lbs 14 oz (complete)
Price Paid: $149 (on sale, direct from SD)

I was looking for the lightest, freestanding 2-person tent I could find to replace my SD Flashlight, and the Summer Moon is it. Actual weight of tent, fly, poles, stakes and stuffsack is under 5 lbs. This was a promo tent and was never listed in the SD catalog. The Summer Moon is no longer made, but it's been replaced by the Cosmos, which is similar design, but slightly larger, but weighs 8 oz more. SD still has a large stock of summer moons (as of 4/98) and is selling them direct for $149.

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Design: 3 season Modified Dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: Super easy and fast
Weight: 4 1/2 to 5lbs.
Price Paid: $149

I love this tent! Just got back from a 5 day'r in the Wind Rivers. We saw some pretty nasty weather (rain, wind, hale). Not a drop of water on the inside. Vestibule is big enough to store pack, boots ect... Lots of head room, tall enough to sit up in. All though this tent is designed for 3-season use, I think you could get by in some light to moderate snow conditions.

I've had this tent for over two years, and it has…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Design: 3 season modified dome
Sleeps: 2 people
Ease of Setup: Incredibly easy to set up in less than 5 minutes
Weight: 5lbs, 5oz.
Price Paid: $175

I've had this tent for over two years, and it has performed above and beyond the call of duty in all types of climates. The rainfly provides for a nicely sized vestibule and has kept me dry on some very stormy nights. Although the tent is not designed for use in harsh climates, it has withstood extremely high winds and cold temperatures on severaloccaisons. Its design is ideal for three season use; the mesh door and window provide for nice ventilation.
