User Review: Sierra Designs Tiros Convertible CD
Rating: ![]()
Design: 4 season expedition dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: not too hard with frozen fingers
Weight: 9lbs
Price Paid: approx $500
I bought this tent for winter mountaineering, but due to the price I also needed to use it year round. (couldn't afford a summer tent as well) I have taken the tent out a handfull of times so far and I have to say that it hasn't let me down.
I was skeptical about the clip design at first but I have definitely converted. They were easy to use even with gloves on.
The vestibules are completely awesome. The bigger one is perfect to get your gear out of the weather and keep the inside of the tent clean. The smaller one serves well as an entry way and a place to put your boots, if you don't want them inside.
The fly can be cinched down fairly tight so that, even in windy conditions, the thing doesn't flap or luff. The guy system is also great.
I would have to say that the best feature of the tent is the zip out pannel on top. In cold weather we zipped open a small section to let the moisture out. The result was a nearly frost free tent interior. In the summer the pannels can be zipped down to provide both a window and a breezeway. Most of the 4-season tents I have been in are unbearable as soon as the weather warms up.
