Recent Sleeping Bag/Pad Reviews

Klymit Insulated Static V

rated 5 of 5 stars Everything they said it was. Tough, comfortable, and reasonably priced. Just bought this from Costco at a discount (expires 7/2/17), based on positive reviews on Trailspace.  I've only tested it at home and on concrete surfaces, but so far it's completely lived up to the positive reviews on Trailspace. Once I figured out that valve, it was easy-peasy. As a side sleeper, and an older person with a problem in one hip joint, I expected to do the usual tossing and turning on camping pads I've done… Full review

Klymit Static V2

rated 4 of 5 stars Comfortable lightweight sleeping pad at an affordable price. Bought this pad as a replacement for a self-inflating one. I had to get something that packs smaller. It's pretty comfortable, made well, and I find it to be a better value than other brands. The Static V2 is very easy to inflate, taking only a few breaths to get it at a comfortable level, though the baffle design makes it a bit tricky to deflate. The baffles themselves are comfortable and don't make it feel like you are sleeping on a… Full review

ZPacks 900 Fill Power Down 30°

rated 5 of 5 stars Nice warm bag. I have been down to the low 20s with it. Have you ever had to get out of your sleeping bag at night for a bathroom break and had the zipper snag? A small hassle in daylight, a pain in the ass at night. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas a few years ago, so I asked for a new sleeping bag. I got the wide 30 degree bag from ZPACKS so it would be more comfortable in cool weather and I could wear a puffy jacket and fleece pants if it got cold. NO ZIPPER. NO HOOD—Getting in… Full review

NEMO Tensor 25L

rated 5 of 5 stars Comfortable, durable, lightweight, and quiet. Packs up quite small. The Nemo Tensor 25L is quite convenient for camping or even just to bring to a friend's house. It can be inflated with a hair drier or anything else you can get in the quick release valve (though make sure you don't have the hair drier on a high heat mode). Blowing it up can be a bit of a chore, but worth it overall. Comes with its own repair kit, and although I haven't needed it yet I am glad to have it. It's about 2" thick when… Full review

Sea to Summit Comfort Light Insulated Mat

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Comfortable, easy to inflate and pack, reasonably durable. Packs similar to the Ultralight Insulated, but is more comfortable to sleep on. Noisy, narrow, feels like arms are going to drop off the sides when not using sleeping bag. It was tough choosing between the Comfort Plus Insulated, Comfort Light Insulated, and Ultralight Insulated sleeping mats. Ultimately I chose the Comfort Light Insulated as it seemed like the best tradeoff between comfort, weight, and warmth. Ease of Use: Super easy to… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Ratio 45

rated 4 of 5 stars Very good warm weather bag. It packs down small, and has good loft for a lightweight summer bag. The zipper only allows it to be used as a quilt for one, as the down doesn't extend to the bottom of the bag. Purchased this bag deeply discounted at $100; the regular retails for $199 and the long for $219. As of June 2017 it is still available with big discounts on many websites. I sleep warm, so this bag allows me to sleep comfortably down to 40 degrees in wool 150 weight base layer shirt and long… Full review

enLIGHTened Equipment Revelation

rated 4 of 5 stars I like this quilt, mainly because when backpacking in summer months and shoulder season spring and fall temps sometimes my Western Mountaineering bag is a little overkill. This is the enLightened Equipment Revelation 20° down quilt in navy and charcoal, regular wide. The quilt for the money is unbeatable, as well as the service. Size of my quilt is regular, width wide. I'm a stocky built guy and this quilt fits me even when I toss and turn. However for a wide I think the quilt needs to be two inches… Full review

Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Mat

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Most comfortable pad I have ever used camping. I have moderate to severe arthritis in my knees and my hips hurt. I am getting old and heavy and this pad gave me a good night's sleep to keep up with my Boy Scouts. I love the size and how easy it is to blow up. I love my new Sea to Summit sleeping pad. Over the years I have used foam, self-inflating, hammocks, air mattresses... I am going with my boys as one of their Scouters to the Canadian Jamboree. So I needed something small that I could carry… Full review

Mountain Hardwear HyperLamina Flame 20

rated 4 of 5 stars I purchased this bag for sea kayaking in the NW. This bag is warm, compresses small for a synthetic filled bag, and has a roomy footbox and a relaxed mummy design. First off, I have used this bag on multiple trips, both backpacking, sea kayaking, and car camping. I feel I have used it enough to give a solid review of its features. This bag is light enough to carry and compresses small for a synthetic bag. It has no noticeable cold spots. The baffles seem to hold the fill in place well. The best… Full review
