REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad

rated 5 of 5 stars This is the best back-packable mattress pad I have used. The Stratus is aptly named. I bought this mattress for a sailing/camping event along the Maine Island Trail in a small boat. The pad has proved to be just right for camping on land as well. The outside ribs help prevent rolling off, which always happens to me on other sleeping pads I've used. This one provides a nice cradle effect and even on the boat I did not slide off. I find it easy to inflate and deflate, a welcome change compared to… Full review

Marmot Men's Trestles 15

rated 3.5 of 5 stars The bag is super warm, even on Mt. Whitney, and adequately warm when using in just a hammock. It is very bulky and does not compress as well as most other bags, but for a synthetic bag at a great price you can't complain too much. It kept me warm and dry and that's what is important. I wouldn't recommend it for long backpacking trips as it is much too bulky, but winter camping would be perfect. I used this bag on a week-long trip to Mt. Whitney and the bag was super warm sleeping in tents at 13,000+… Full review

Slumberjack Latitude -20°F

rated 5 of 5 stars Bag lives up to its name. People who contest otherwise are not dressing appropriately (overdressing) and should find other activities than outdoor ones. This bag keeps you warm. Some writers have indicated that it is overrated. ALL bags are rated for ideal conditions and are thus overrated for some activities. ALL. Bag is comfortable, loft holds up well. NOTE: you cannot overdress and use a bag that is designed for this low of a temperature. The more you wear, the more you will actually sweat. Sweat… Full review

Therm-a-Rest Z-Shield

rated 3.5 of 5 stars The Therm-a-Rest Z-Shield is a dense, accordion style, closed cell foam mat. I’d recommend not relying on this as your primary sleeping pad, but it is good for beginners or younger campers. The Z-Shield also could be used as a back support in a frameless pack and comes in handy when a dry or clean place to sit is lacking around the campsite. Testing Conditions I’ve tested it primarily in Florida, but also in North Carolina between mid-October through January. I used the Z-Shield as my sole… Full review

Big Agnes Insulated Double Z

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Make some room in your pack for this insulated sleeping pad. It might be a bit bulky and heavy, but what's it worth to you to sleep like a baby? Okay, so I'm all about making trips into the backcountry as comfortable as possible, but I really don't want to haul everything including the kitchen sink with me to make that happen. I'm not an ultralight thru-hiker so I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of weight and space (the only two negatives about this pad) in my pack for a few comforts, and this BA… Full review

REI Igneo Sleeping Bag

rated 5 of 5 stars Great bag, I would buy another one. You can't go wrong buying this bag. It has the quality or exceeds the quality of much more expensive 20 degree bags. I used this bag on an AT thru-hike 2015. What I like most about the bag is it's ultra-lite, very packable, very water resistant and a perfect fit for me at 165 pounds 5'10", using the regular bag. I found it to be a very comfortable bag. I washed the bag using cold water and dried the bag in a dryer on low heat using drier balls to keep the… Full review

Exped SynMat UL 9

rated 3.5 of 5 stars A good mat that I am very happy with. Warm, comfortable, large enough, and well priced. This is an oversized mat that is perfect for my long and heavy (it's all muscle — I swear) body. I am 105kgs and 189cm tall. This mat is my one concession to weight (most everything else in my pack is UL). What I like about this mat is its width. I'm a broad bloke and this mat enables my arms to stay on the mat during the night. I also like that I can sleep comfortably on my side with this mat. It is luxurious. Full review

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Very comfortable, but it sounds like you're sleeping on a bag of chips—crinkly noises every time I moved on it. Easy to inflate, very small packed up, BUT very noisy when you roll over. It sounds like you're sleeping on a bag of chips. I tested it in my living room and it was loud. I can't imagine the noise it would make on a quiet night in the woods. If somebody I camped with had this in my tent I wouldn't be too happy. I ended up returning it and getting the Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus. It's… Full review

REI Magma Sleeping Bag

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great product. Kept me warm down to single digits. I have used this bag for the past two winters and have been really happy. It's kept me warm down to single digits. I think the DridDown helps because I never have any clumping, but often have frozen condensation on the outside of the bag. Zipper snags and even caused a small tear in the bag. Full review
