Crown Prince Sardines in Spring Water

rated 4 of 5 stars Great used as a mix-in protein source in meals or for snacking right out of the bag. Single serving portion in an easy to open bag. Worth their weight for day hikers, climbers, or those on longer trails and especially so for those looking to add fat and protein to their diet. Crown Prince is pretty well known for their canned sardines, but they recently came out with several varieties sold in easy to open pouches. They can be somewhat hard to find as not all grocery stores carry them, but they are… Full review

Crown Prince Sardines in Lousiana Hot Sauce

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Not an especially great hot sauce, but it has plenty of kick. Great used as a mix-in protein source in meals or for snacking right out of the bag. Backpacker's Pantry Cheddar Cheese Spread

rated 4 of 5 stars It's not bad if you've had MRE's before. I've eaten enough MRE's in my last job to know that this stuff actually isn't that bad. It's saved a meal or two because they've tasted so crappy from the beginning. Heat it up with the main entrée, such as spaghetti, and add some to it and you've got a bangin meal. Full review

Perky Jerky Original Turkey

rated 2.5 of 5 stars A sweet, soy sauce based turkey jerky, it’s all natural with no preservatives. Unfortunately, this Original flavor, while unique, does not bring me back to days of yard work with my dad or relaxed miles in the backcountry. I received this from Trailspace (thanks!) and it's the Original flavor of Perky Jerky's Turkey meat jerky. Expectations I’m always open to trying new flavors; I never mind trying something once, at least I can say “I tried.” My expectation going in is that I prefer smoky… Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce

rated 5 of 5 stars OMG. So I assume that most of you have tried quite a few Backpackers Pantry meals — this one is the bomb.  I would eat this even if I'm not backpacking; that's how good it is. Of course, with a backpacking meal it's going to have a high sodium content. This probably has the lowest sodium content I found, at only 9% sodium (230mgs per half the bag). So perhaps this is an entree to eat on an easier day where you don't need to replenish those salts direly — So for someone who has hiked a short… Full review

Bell Plantation PB2

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Bell Plantation's PB2 is a powdered peanut butter product weighing 1/3 the weight of traditional peanut butter, with a reduced fat content. It is easily rehydrated, but takes time and energy. It shares the same great taste as regular peanut butter, with a grittier texture. The reduced fat content is not necessarily a pro for the long-distant backpacker, needing a higher daily calorie intake. I was on the hunt in my local grocery store for a squeezable tube of peanut butter to throw into my backpack,… Full review

Just Tomatoes, Etc.! Just Veggies

rated 5 of 5 stars Very excellent product to add to soups or any dehydrated meal you want to create. Loved them. Full review

Peter Rabbit Organics Mango, Banana, and Orange Fruit Snack

rated 5 of 5 stars Great pack food and easy to carry. This is a great addition to my day hikes! I love that it is pure fruit, yet I don't have to have the actual piece of fruit squishing around in my pack. It is good even at outdoor temps, goes down easy and is a great boost when needed  on a hot hike. You just twist the cap and gizzle it down like apple sauce. Tastes good. No preservatives, organic! Good for if the tykes are with you, but I used it in my Everest Base Camp pack to try to work against my loss of appetite… Full review
