Ultimate Survival Technologies Folding Stove

rated 3 of 5 stars I give it 3 stars. It's okay for short summer trips when you need a cup of coffee to get you going in the morning. It was made well, but for some odd reason I like my Esbit from 15 years ago better. Not sure why. All in all it's worth $3-5 dollars. Full review

mKettle

rated 5 of 5 stars A portable hot pot for morning joe anywhere in the world...and a little oatmeal. Purchased online via Massdrop although have had and used other larger units sold under Kelly Kettle moniker.  This one differs as it is extensively anodized, has a wraparound neoprene sleeve for handling and uses a silicone plug to transport water when not heating. Also has base that serves as burning pot and is large enough to hold some alcohol stove units. I used an open Trangia alcohol dish and produced my own… Full review

Optimus Crux Lite

rated 5 of 5 stars Small, not expensive, with plenty of heat. I chose the Optimus because the platform for holding a pot is larger than other brands, making it less top heavy. Everything about this stove ranks near the top. It is small, not expensive, easy to use, is not top heavy, and the flame control works well for a canister stove. In the wind there is some benefit to setting it up behind a wind break or making a windscreen. It is very light and dependable. I have used it on my boat during winter fishing trips. Full review

DIY: Collapsible Cylinder Wood Stove

rated 5 of 5 stars DIY wood burning cylinder stove offers the same functionality as commercial models at 1/10th the cost. Most suitable for family sized tents and groups of two or more backpackers in winter. This DIY (Do It Yourself) stove is not a branded or sold product, requiring the user to collect the parts and build the stove themselves. I built the prototypes for personal use and to instruct Junior Forest Wardens (children) to make it themselves. As I do not have the time to make them for sale, I have provided… Full review

Optimus Crux

rated 3 of 5 stars I brilliant idea that has its drawbacks. Suited for summer conditions in sheltered areas. This seems like a stroke of genius—make use of the dead space at the bottom of the canister to stow the stove. In principle it is but manufacturing something this compact comes at a price. The designers at Optimus were clever to spot the dead space at the bottom of a gas canister and consider if a stove could be made to fit in it. In this respect it is a brilliant idea. It certainly fits in larger canisters,… Full review

Vargo Hexagon

rated 5 of 5 stars A great pocket wood burning stove ideal for boiling water and simple cooking. Well thought out design means a fire is burning in a very short space of time. It can also be used with an alchohol burner making it a versatile source of heat. There are many wood burning stoves on the market as individuals around the globe think they have discovered the 'holy grail' of wood burning stove design. The market is saturated; especially now that Chinese and Russian imitations are flooding the market. The Vargo… Full review

Trail Designs Caldera Cone System

rated 4 of 5 stars You cannot beat this for performance. Only a Trangia offers greater stability. Its simplicity is genius. I have many alcohol stoves but this beats them all, though not hands down. Foremost, it out performs a Trangia for a fraction of the weight and for much less cost. Its simplicity in design and use mean it is extremely well suited to extended trips in more remote areas. No moving parts and its simple design mean there is very little to go wrong. It is an extremely stable system that eliminates… Full review

Optimus Svea

rated 5 of 5 stars It is a trusted friend who will always be there for you when things get tough. There are times when you need to get something warm into you, and you need it NOW...that is when you will appreciate this stove. Dump some fuel on the top, light it, insert the valve key, put your pot on top, and turn the key when the flames of the priming fuel are almost out...you've got soup! The perfect stove has yet to be made. This one isn't the fastest to boil water; but it will do the job. Simmering is not great,… Full review

Evernew Ti DX Set With Stove

rated 3 of 5 stars Although lightweight and compact, it is over-engineered and inefficient. Limited with what it can do and unstable on uneven ground. I have a number of alcohol burners (including homemade can stoves) and whilst it is well made and has an eye catching design, it is very expensive for what it can do. There are much cheaper, simpler and more efficient ways to boil water.  Yes, it is very light, but for gram counters there is even lighter. Just the titanium burner with an Evernew trivet and a simple… Full review
