Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net

rated 5 of 5 stars Large enough to fit over a hat. Small and light enough to carry anywhere. Keeps mosquitoes at bay. I have been carrying the Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net in my backpack for years. I got it as a gift and being so small and light I just stashed it in a ditty bag along with my headlamp and a few other items which I would use occasionally on backpack trips. Up until this summer's PCT section hike from Tahoe to Yosemite I had never needed to use it even in Alaska and the Yukon. While reducing my… Full review

Sawyer Permethrin Premium Insect Repellent

rated 4 of 5 stars Sawyer Permethrin insect repellent is a proactive way to take action before you get into the bugs that is effective and easy to apply. Let me first say that I received my Sawyer Permethrin as a gift for being a past Reviewer of the Month here at Trailspace. As far as bugs go, I think I am average when it comes to how attracted mosquitos are to me compared to other individuals like my wife, who tends to be a mosquito magnet. My normal approach is that when I get into an area where I am starting… Full review

Para'Kito Mosquito Repellent Band

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Expensive but effective band with an eye catching color and pattern. Saved me from sheer torment. I was recommended the Parakito band while on holiday in Germany's Black Forest and having suffered 146 mosquito bites (Yes, I counted them!). I loved the range of designs choosing a vibrant one for myself but a more muted one for my partner. The instructions were clear and straightforward and the band was comfortable to wear. I wore the band 24/7 though took it off for showering despite the instructions… Full review

Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller

rated 4 of 5 stars I'm not a big fan of mosquitos, or of slathering Deet all over myself. This repellant device is small enough to take on short overnight backpacking trips and makes hanging around camp a much better experience. I hate mosquitos. A big part of why I rarely backpack close to my Ohio home in the summer is because I don’t want to deal with them. The choice of getting repeatedly bitten or covering myself in Deet on a hot summer evening is picking one of two bad options to me. So you know, I’ve tried… Full review

Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great evolution to their older handhelds, which were bulky and require their proprietary fuel cartridges. I hate DEET. I feel this is a far better solution. I've used the handhelds for years from BBQ's to week-long backpacking trips. These just plain work and you don't have to cover yourself in DEET! These are smaller, lighter, and don't require Thermacell fuel! I've already tested this new unit and it works flawlessly.  Full review

Sawyer Permethrin Premium Insect Repellent

rated 5 of 5 stars I have used DEET and other products since the early 1980s, but Permethrin treated clothes are much more effective in tick prevention based on my experience in tick-infested areas. Sawyer Permethrin can keep ticks from landing and biting, and can actually kill them on your clothes. It is the repellent I depend on for work and recreation—effective and easy to apply. A recent forum thread reminded me I hadn’t reviewed bug protection products that I planned to write up last year.  With today being… Full review

Sawyer Picaridin Insect Repellent

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I have used DEET and other products since the early 1980s as mosquito and tick prevention for work and play, but now am a full convert to Sawyer Picaridin and Permethrin combination to keep the bugs away. Picaridin has similar effectiveness to DEET without the worries about plastic degrading and other effects on gear. A recent forum thread reminded me I hadn’t reviewed bug protection products that I planned to write up last year.  With spring coming on and today being excellent gear-treating… Full review

Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller

rated 4 of 5 stars An excellent solution to the eternal mosquito problem. Face it. One of the most uncomfortable things out in the wilderness is those little insects that bother, bite, and suck our blood. It can make a lovely trip a nightmare. Thermacell has for many years made mosquito repellent devices for home, patio, and hunters/anglers. But most of their products are too bulky and heavy for backpacking. New this year is their "Backpacker" model, which is designed for those of us who travel light. The heart of… Full review

SlingFin CrossBow 2 Mesh Drop-In

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This accessory is designed for the CrossBow 2 StormPak, allowing the user to be well protected from insects, while minimizing weight with the bare-bones setup of the CrossBow 2. For those who want a strong tent that is easy to customize, the SlingFin CrossBow 2 is a lightweight way to do it! When using the StormPak configuration, the tent user has the option to modify this open-air setup by adding the Mesh Inner Drop-In. This accessory is a hybrid between a tent inner, and an open-bottomed centrally… Full review
