The North Face Extreme Light Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars

The Extreme Light Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best snowsport jackets for 2024.

I caught this one on sale for about 150. I couldn't believe a North Face jacket this inexpensive. I later figured out why...no Gore-tex. It is only a nylon shell with a powder skirt. It has plenty of pockets and is very comfortable. Not to mention the embroidered logos look sharp too...But it worries me about the waterproofness..or lack thereof as the case may be. I got the zip-in fleece liner and it is quite warm.

No complaints yet. I have treated both the liner and the shell with several heavy coats of Scotchguard in hopes that it will keep me dry as well.

I do suggest that if you are going to spend upwards of $200 for a jacket, get one with Gore-tex. I wish that I had. Drop me an e-mail if you bought an extreme light. I'd like to know how well it holds up in a downpour.

Fabric: Rip-stop nylon shell with cordura re-enforcement
Fill: Optional zip in fleece liner
Price Paid: about $150-$200 without the liner

The North Face Extreme LIGHT is the best jacket for skiing in mild weather but has the extra zippers for a liner. There is a powder froof "skirt" inside which can be velcroed and/or buttoned. The powder "skirt" works great, I've skiied in three feet of powder and had no leaks. There are 8 pockets including a huge cargo net inside. There is a trail-map pocket on the left sleeve, six pockets on the front two of which are for your hands and four cargo pockets. There is a glove loop in the bottom right pocket and a lift ticket loop just above the bottom left pocket. I have had no problems with my jacket and have been extremely happy with its performance.

THANKS NORTH FACE!

Fabric: Nylon shell with Polyester and Nylon linings
Price Paid: $225

I've been skiing in this jacket all over the world for six years now, and I couldn't make a single complaint about it. It has held up great and has tons of storage space, which is great for a ski instructor like myself. You can't buy these anymore, but grab one if you can! I see them on Ebay occasionally...

Price Paid: $155

Perfect jacket for someone looking for a light ski jacket. Good in lighter conditions but it has available zip in liners. Very practical for those looking for North Face quality without the outrageous North Face prices. I own one myself and I enjoy using it in the climates I am in.

Fabric: 2-Ply Gore-Tex
Price Paid: $225 (US)

This is a very good jacket, it is just what I wanted and didn't cost $600 like almost all the rest. It is very warm and has numerous pockets. It is what I have always wanted.

Fabric: cds poly-nylon with hydron
Price Paid: $299
