I have taken this pack on numerous outings, and would choose it over a backpack for any day trip. With creative use of the straps I had the room to pack enough food, emergency supplies, water and even rain gear to get me safely up and down Long's Peak. Unless you cinch it tight it's a little bouncy for mountain biking, but for day hikes it is perfect.
