Excellent bag. It's been from undergrad through law school with me. From Jamaica to the Cayman Islands. It's held up to every day abuse and stood strong like a champ.

Here's what other sites are saying:
A reliable mid-capacity pack for dayhikes and school use, The North Face Recon features a large mesh front pocket that lets you keep a bike helmet or an extra layer within easy reach. Also includes a padded laptop sleeve. Laminated back panel with breathable mesh and channels for ventilation. Shoulder straps also include breathable mesh padding; tuckaway hip belt. Main compartment with universal padded sleeve and hydration port (reservoir not included). Front pocket with organizer panel for school items, cell phone and electronics pockets. #10 YKK zipper on main compartment withstands the wear and tear of heavy loads. Side mesh water bottle pockets; bottom compression straps let you attach additional bulky items. Adjustable sternum strap improves pack stability. Signal whistle built into plastic sternum strap buckle.
Adjustable, S-curved padded shoulder straps, whistle-sternum strap and padded back panel offer load-carrying comfort. Dual side mesh water bottle pockets with cord lock keeps bottles from bouncing around (water bottles sold separately). Front compartment with organizer helps keep track of pens, pencils, wallet, cell phone, electronics and other daily essentials. Front mesh pocket buckles to securely hold a bike helmet and lock; reflective stripe on front for added visibility. Front stash pocket with water resistant zipper for small necessities. Hide-away webbing waistbelt, side compression straps and bottom cargo straps allow you to stabilize and control the load. Panel-loading main compartment offers plenty of room for gear and clothing, or books and binders. Rear padded compartment keeps laptop safe during commute--doubles as hydration pocket with an exit port for drinking tube (reservoir sold separately). Using BackSaver technology, the bottom front is designed with a lifted angle helping to position pack's load higher on your back for ideal carrying. You never know where the day will take you! This high-performance technical daypack will take you from the trail to everyday work and school commutes.
Take a look around and you'll find plenty of compact daypacks with laptop pockets and pouches, but few designs balance cargo space and padded laptop protection like The North Face Recon II daypack. Inside is a cushioned compartment that easily accommodates most laptop configurations with plenty of space left over for cables, jackets and a three-course lunch. The front mesh pocket expands to wrap around a wet shell or a bicycle helmet, making the North Face Recon II pack a superb choice for cycling commutes. Like other packs from The North Face, the Recon II offers superior construction with 840-deneir Hypalon reinforcements built to last through an entire academic career and countless trips back to the home office. The backpanel is laminated with molded channels that actually ventilate instead of those other designs that push clammy perspiration up against your skin all day. The hipbelt also tucks away, giving this compact backpack a streamlined profile for overhead bins on trains, planes and buses.
