The Timberland Fastpacker SS is an excellent day hiking and light-to-moderate weight backpacking boot for use in rough trails. In addition to service in several day hiking trips, I recently used the Fastpacker SS on a moderate weight backpacking trip and was extremely pleased with its performance. The sole provided excellent traction and support and its full-grain nubuck construction with ACT lining proved extremely waterproof. After many stream crossings, the boot kept my feet perfectly dry.
For off trail and light mountaineering, or for heavy weight backpacking, a heavy duty boot might be needed. However for day hiking and light-to-moderate backpacking, the Fastpacker SS will prove an excellent acquisition especially if one can purchase a pair on sale.
