Showers Pass Basecamp Merino Hoodie

The Showers Pass Basecamp Merino Hoodie is a terrific outdoor companion to anyone who values high-quality activewear made from natural fibers. The midweight, wool hoodie is great at moderating temperatures and resisting odors, while providing you with an eye-catching, cozy mid-layer. It's also a versatile piece for year-round performance—as a nighttime layer around a summer campfire, as a hiking layer in cool temps, or as part of a system of winter layers. Royal Robbins Bug Barrier Tech Travel Long Sleeve II

A lightweight long sleeve shirt treated with Insectshield, a form of permethrin, to keep bugs at bay. This is a technical shirt that allows great freedom of movement and has a very forgiving fit. Don’t look to this shirt to provide much insulation or to wick moisture. It’s also very lightweight and dries fairly quickly, so it’s good for warmer weather and harder climbs, as well as for travel.   Hiking in the White Mountains. I worked hard to get to this point, notable that the sun and wind… Full review

The Original Bug Shirt Elite Edition

Complete protection against biting insects from waist and wrists on up, with zippered access to the face and good ventilation for comfort in warm-ish weather. Worth its weight in DEET! “I fart in your general direction!” – a well known faux-French taunt in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, may also be directed toward mosquitos when sufficiently protected against them. There are times when no amount of insect repellent will keep the bugs away. Mosquitos will bite through head hair or a couple… Full review

Wuru Merino Lightweight Hoodie

Wuru's Lightweight Hoodie brings their Nuyarn performance wool, a merino nylon blend, into a hooded base layer. Worn alone it has a UPF rating of 40, but is super comfortable paired with other layers in the cold. The hood provides bonus protection from bugs or snow. True four-season gear.   . The Wuru Lightweight Hoodie is made with an eye for warmer weather use as a trail shirt, but when the chance came up to test it this winter I was eager to see how it did as a base layer. As you can see from… Full review

Kora Yardang Jersey

Kora’s Yardang jersey is a warm wool base layer made from a blend of 70% merino and 30% yak wool. The knit is very smooth and comfortable, and the shirt has a fairly long half-zip. Sizing is more forgiving than most base layers. It’s a great layer worn by itself for hiking in cool weather, or as a base or mid-layer in the cold. INTRO/BACKGROUND Yardang men's XXL. Dusting of snow, about 28 degrees (was wearing it under another layer) Kora’s Yardang is a wool half-zip shirt made from a 240 gram/square… Full review

Outdoor Research Baritone Quarter Zip

This shirt is a super soft, warm, stretchy quarter-zip layer that's perfect for wear around the house or in camp on a cool fall day. I wear mine when I'm working remotely or to and from adventures, but for big days in the mountains or on the trail, I reach for something else. This is a good representation of the color...The other photos are a little washed out The Baritone quarter-zip is a heavy-weight baselayer or a lightweight mid-layer designed to be stretchy and soft for ease of movement and… Full review

Patagonia Sunshade Technical Hoody

The Patagonia Sunshade Technical Hoody is designed to be used in hot and humid conditions, has a light airy design, and also offers SPF 50 sun protection. Overall I’ve found the Patagonia Sunshade Technical Hoody to be similar in performance to other sun shirts that I own. The fabric has a nice comfortable feel and is made from 100% polyester, of which 68% is recycled. The fit of the hoody from my experience is different than other Patagonia products and runs very large. Overall this is a nice… Full review

Icebreaker Quantum Long Sleeve Zip Hood

Smart design, adjusts to changing temps: Hood up for cold mornings, down as the sun rises and activity level increases. Breathable wool is naturally odor-resistant, can be used longer between washings if traveling . Durable, functional, stylish and well-made. Recommended for active/exercise wear, travel, and layering. Found the original design of this jacket at an excellent price several years ago, on sale at a local outdoor specialty retailer. I bought it primarily with travel in mind. I also liked… Full review

Outdoor Research Astroman Sun Hoodie

The OR Astroman Sun Hoodie is an extremely lightweight, long sleeve, hooded shirt designed primarily as a sun layer for climbers. However, I believe this shirt has uses far beyond that—biking, exposed peaks, glacial travel, on the water/ paddling, travelling, and as a wind layer. The shirt boasts a UPF rating of 50+, full coverage hood, packs tiny, and weighs in at 6 ounces (no reason to leave it at home!). The thin fabric requires a little extra care around rough rocks, thorns, etc to ensure… Full review
