Here's what other sites are saying:

From Backcountry.com:
"The Vasque Kota GTX Men's Hiking Shoes give you excellent support and completely waterproof protection on the roughest, wettest trails. As rain starts coming down, your feet laugh at mud puddles and streams while the Gore-Tex XCR liners keep them totally dry and provide superb breathability. The mud-covered rocks and steep, loose trails don't have a chance against the high-traction Vasque Racer X sole. Kota GTX Hiking Shoes use the Keystone Control System in their lacing to pull your heel back and anchor it against the cushy dual-density EVA midsole. This system increases precision on ultra-rough terrain and increases support when you're packing a heavy load."

From Altrec Outdoors:
"Not too long ago heavy, over-the-ankle leather hiking boots were considered the footwear of choice for scrambling up peaks and traveling rugged trails with a heavy load. Now rugged low-cut options, like the Vasque Men's Kota GTX Hiking Shoe, offer a lightweight alternative to their clunky predecessors. Although they may not be the best choice for those who have a history of twisting their ankles, for everyone else they're definitely worth trying. The cleat inspired Racer X lug outsole grips with tenacity on everything from snowfield traverses to scree-choked gullies. But what really separates the Vasque Kota GTX from its look-alike running shoe cousins is the stiff molded thermoplastic urethane (TPU) plate with heel stabilizer that gives the shoe such a supportive underfoot feel on uneven terrain. The 1.8mm waterproof nubuck and pig suede leather upper with rubber toe bumper stands up to off-trail abuse, while a Gore-Tex liner serves as a layer of protection from mis-steps at shallow stream crossings. In their 2007 Gear Guide, Backpacker magazine crowned the Vasque Kota GTX Hiking Shoe for men as the Best Low-Cut for Backpacking. One reason they singled this shoe out for praise was the fact that a test pair roamed 400 miles before the outsoles wore out. Right out of the box the Vasque Men's Kota GTX Hiking Shoe is a little bit stiff, but after a few test drives around the neighborhood they break-in nicely yet maintain the stiffness one desires for carrying an overnight pack on varied terrain. Do your adventures usually take place in dry environments? Then be sure to check out the Vasque Kota Day Hiker, a similar model that does not include the Gore-Tex liner."

From REI:
"Vasque Kota XCRs, are waterproof multi-sport shoes that, deliver flexible comfort and weather protection on- or off-trail. Nubuck/split-grain leather and nylon uppers supply durable protection and breathable comfort on all-day adventures. Seam-sealed Gore-Tex XCR liners are waterproof and extra breathable. Padded cuffs and tongues provide comfort; quick-drying nylon linings disperse excess moisture. Keystone Control System incorporates nylon webbing supports to help lock feet into heel pockets and footbeds when laced snug. Rubber toe bumpers protect feet and uppers from bumps and abrasion. Velocity last shape with curved toe boxes is ideal for asymmetrically shaped feet; provides a low-profile ride for better stability. Removable dual-density footbeds add cushioning to compression-molded EVA midsoles for superb shock absorption. Thermoplastic urethane plates protect feet from sharp rocks and create torsional rigidity for stability. Aggressive Racer-X rubber outsoles bite into loose and packed surfaces for reliable traction, braking and flexibility."

"I have had these shoes for about a year now and really like them. They fit really well, have not shown much wear although I have used them a LOT. Recently I used them on some snowshoeing backpacking trips in the Cascades and they were awesome. Didn't leak one bit and were very comfortable."

"All are al'right but it comes to be slippery. One may see the base is not designed to be anti-slippery."
