Sawyer Squeeze Filter System

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Very portable and lightweight, easy to use and great for travelers. Scenario: Only water source at camp was from a stream and second time using filter. I filled up my bottle, attached filter to the top, and drank. It was also handy refilling our water bladders and took only a few minutes to refill a 2L and 3L bag. Tip: I put my Sawyer filter in a ziplock bag to prevent the filter from leaking excess water. Shake it out throughly before stuffing it in your bag or attach the squeeze bag to the end… Full review

Katadyn Vario Microfilter

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Fast way to filter your water on the go. Easy to use and clean. Great for backpacking. I got my Vario at a store for used outdoor gear called Second Gear. I use to boil my water or used iodine tabs. After a few trips and using other people's pumps I bought it used for about 30 bucks and bought a new filter for about $45 at REI. The dual action piston pumps faster than any other pump. Two settings for the flow allows for fast flow or longer filter life. It is heavier than the chemicals, but with… Full review

Katadyn Hiker

rated 5 of 5 stars It's prone to a stuck check valve, but after much searching, I discovered a company, Smart Products, that has a simple and quick fix for the problem with the insertion of their double-barbed, one-way valve for 1/4' hose.  Here’s the information:http://smartproducts.com/ Part number:     304304-0011S000-6019Description:      1/4” Barb x 1/4” Barb CV Polypropylene MaterialPrice:        $6.50     Full review

Katadyn Hiker

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Nice filter. I love it, but it takes some effort to pump. Leaks a little at intake hose attachment point when pumping, so be prepared to get a little wet. Used it in shallow creek in Harriman State Park in N.Y., and the the pump filled with dirt. Assume it shortened the life of the filter cartridge. Rinsed the filter well when I got back, and since I was returning to the same shelter area of Harriman the following weekend, I tied a piece of old t-shirt material on the pre-filter and that seems to… Full review

Katadyn Hiker PRO

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great filter for hiking in the backcountry. This stores small and is fairly lightweight. Would definitely recommend this for anyone hiking where water must be treated. I bought this filtration system more than four seasons ago and have not regretted it. It packs light and is easy to use. The fresh water connection fits most Nalgene openings and hydration packs. When it doesn't it is easy to hold the tube along with the container you are pumping water into.   The one downside is that the pump… Full review

Sawyer Squeeze Filter System

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great product that meets all of my backpacking needs. Amazing customer service. I've had my Sawyer filter system for just over a year. It's held up well, through two seasons of backpacking. I personally love the space and light weight it offers. I received three bags of different sizes with my filter, all of which have held up great. After two seasons I am looking at replacing some of them, only because they have seen a lot of wear from some rough Boy sScouts through out the season. I did have some… Full review

Sawyer Squeeze Filter System

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Great filtration system. The system was put to the test in the waters of Lake Michigan. After filling and taking a big long drink, I noticed a couple of dead ducks floating nearby. I am still alive and happy to report this little filter works awesome. Cloudy murky water turns into crystal clear goodness with not a hint of foulness as the water hits your taste buds. Backwashing is simple and quick and the instructions are printed right on the filter. Very easy to use, very easy to care for. A negative… Full review

Platypus GravityWorks Filter System 4L

rated 5 of 5 stars This product works!!! The 4L Platypus is utilized best when the need to produce large amounts of water is necessary. I would recommend this or its little brother to anyone who requires the need to filter water effectively and efficiently from water sources that does or may contain bacteria. We used this on a five-day float down one of Alaska's premiere rivers. Though the river itself is as clean and pristine as you would like any river to be, at the start of the trip, we floated by a decaying moose… Full review

Katadyn Pocket

rated 5 of 5 stars The Katadyn is long lasting, and easy to use. It can be cleaned in the field and removes microorganisms larger than .2 microns. It is great for long stays in the outdoors where it would be difficult to carry all the water you would need for the trip. Combined with a Steripen, it will provide drinkable water from almost any source. I've used the Katadyn to filter water in outdoor situations where it was not practical to carry all the water needed for the trip.  The filter comes with its own carry… Full review
