Summary

Spent a miserable week in this thing!

Pros

  • Weight
  • Cost

Cons

  • Useless in rain
  • Too small
  • No fly
  • Difficult to get in and out

I spent a week trapped in this thing on Isle Royale National park. I picked it for the weight and the price, naively thinking "It'll do."

It rained every day of the trip. And the inside of my tent was dripping wet each morning, even though I had "waterproofed" it before setting out. (Thank goodness I wasn't using a down sleeping bag! My synthetic bag was wet each day.)

Because there is no fly, condensation builds up, and water seeps in. Because it's so small, you simply can't afford to touch the walls--nearly impossible to do when you're getting in or out of it.

So...I used this thing on my very first backpacking trip, 6 years ago. Even before we set out, the more experienced guys in the group told me I would regret this tent. They were right. I learned my lesson the hard way.
