From South Africa. I was belaying a partner who placed a 1.5 that was about 15 years old (replaced sling) into a horizontal crack. He clipped foolishly into the protruding stem sling, and not the gunk style tie off. 4 meters further up off he goes. The cam's stem bent at 70% but did not shear. The cam itself did not budge in the crack. If it wasn't for the well engineered WC friend, he would either be dead or very seriously injured.

Since then, have never worried about all the blab about rigid stems. And considering that was on the "old" stem design, the new I beam design provides even more peace of mind.

Apart from this testimony, the forged friends last forever! I'm still using 20-year-old forged friends regularly. Bomber stuff.

Wild Country Forged Friends Camming Devices have evolved drastically from the original 1970's design, and they now make an excellent choice for any frugal climber building a rack. Their color-coded heads and dyed Dyneema slings help you select the right size when seconds count. The Forged Friends' simple design makes them light on the rack while their low cost makes them light on your wallet.

The Forged Friend by Wild Country are now 20% off! These cams may look like a work of art but they are still incredibly functional...And although Ray would recognise this shiny modern unit as an inheritor of all the key features of the original he launched with Wild Country in 1978, these have certainly been brought up to date with the latest technology. So along with the Original 13.75 degree camming angle, floating trigger and predictable loading of the 70's unit this modern Friend has a host of new features. These include camstops, a 12mm Dyneema sling, a stronger axle and superb bright colour coding to make your life safer, quicker, stronger and lighter than ever before.A favorite of the Desert climbers of Utah, the wallers of 'the Valley' and many other places besides, the modern Forged Friends are still acknowledged as one of lightest and most durable SLCD's available today. These Forged Friends units are the workhorse of the Wild Country Friend range and are also one of the best value units around making them a great choice for now....and for a long time to come...but don't just take our word for it...
