I use my Tsunami 145 primarily for multi-day trips on the nearby Wisconsin River and take it along on many trips in the area, approx 400 miles on it so far. I've found it to be an excellent boat with great weight carrying ability and stability. Large cockpit to fit my 6'2" 225lbs (and big feet). Comfortable seating. Tracks well.
Other reviews on this yak have commented on the hatch seals but I haven't had any problems. A quick push on the lid edges appears to snap them into place but it does take a double check to ensure good seal.
Gets up to speed ok, but wouldn't win any races.
Its comfortable fit also translates to somewhat high profile so some weathercock, not significant.

Most of us know that love at first sight is great for romantic comedies and fairy tales, but real life relationships take cultivation and deliberate nurturing. Perhaps your past is littered with boats too big and too small, or too tippy or too staid. No more. Meet your paddling soulmate, the Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 Kayak. This sleek boat feeds your need for stability at high speeds, carries your cargo without complaint, and best of all, fits your slightly above-average frame perfectly. Though you can't marry a boat, you'll enjoy a long and fruitful union with this enchanting siren of the seas (or lakes or ponds). The Tsunami 145 is a mere 6 inches longer and a meager 0. 5 inches wider than the Tsunami 140, but otherwise it sports the same touring hull design and outfitting as the other Tsunami family members. Semi-rigid polyethylene takes on a moderate V for the hull and works outward to multi-chined sides. Angles to the deck create walls to give your new boat-partner initial and secondary stability that most 50-year marriages lack. Tweak the Phase 3 AirPro Tour seat for a finely tuned fit on every outing, and adjust the SlideLock foot brace system for the right bracing power. Three hatches with domed covers buoy your watercraft, in addition to swallowing enough gear for a week exploring a chain of lakes.
For larger paddlers (or those who just get a bit claustrophobic) who want to experience the thrill of kayak touring, the Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 with rudder is a perfect choice. Versatile and stable without compromising performance, the Tsunami 145 will please paddlers of any level. For free shipping to over 50 of our stores, or to ask any questions, call Customer Service at 888-463-6367.
Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 Sea Touring Kayak - The Tsunami 145 has become one of the best selling kayaks of all time! It reflects Wilderness Systems' dedication to encouraging more people to paddle more often. This innovative design fuses recreational boat stability with touring boat outfitting and speed. The deeper hull and larger cockpit accomodates bigger paddlers or those traveling with more gear. Phase3 outfitting allows you to set up your seat to precisely fit your body type. The sculptured high-density foam seat encourages air circulation and the precise-position settings relieve thigh and back fatigue, delivering unprecedented control and comfort. A friction-adjustment system permits settings anywhere within the range of motion for that adjustment. Best of all, you'll never have to land and exit your boat to adjust your settings; all controls are right at your fingertips. Gen2 high-density polyethylene plastic was chosen to provide a balance of all the material properties that make an outstanding recreational kayak. Amazingly resilient for its weight, Gen2 results in boats with thin, stiff walls that stand up to the demands of the sport and minimize the distortion that is inevitable over time. Gen2 also produces a smoother finish with richer, longer lasting colors. Easy for beginners to master, and the go-to-day-tripper for experienced paddlers, the Tsunami is the latest in a long line of breakthrough ideas.
