About

I try to spend as much free time in the outdoors as possible, camping in the backcountry is always at the top of my list. Traveling the country & visiting many of the National and State parks at a very young age ignited my love for the outdoors, and became my main interest. I have been camping as long as I can remember, and began backpacking with the BSA when I was still in the single digits.

I try to get out on eight annual backpacking trips visiting new places and returning to favorites, like Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. Teaching people skills like camping, survival, first aid, and LNT has become a way of life for me. After spending about 20 years working indoors in the management field, I decided that spending time outdoors on a recreational basis was just no longer enough for me. I took my medical skills beyond Wilderness First Aid & CPR/AED, achieving WFR certification. In addition, I got certified as a Leave No Trace trainer. These skills, along with opportunities though Trailspace have opened many doors for me in many ways. During the warmer months when the restaurant business lightens up I also work as a private guide taking budding backpackers on more adventerous camping trips.

Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is a program dedicated to educate and protect what we love--the outdoors. This way can be applied to all aspects of life, and helps to enrich people. LNT sponsors a large number of companies in the outdoor field, including Trailspace! https://lnt.org/about/corporate-partners
