Aron Ralston's story of self-amputating his lower right arm with a dull pocket knife in a Utah canyon riveted the public back in 2003. Naturally a book, Between a Rock and a Hard Place, followed in 2005. In late 2010 Danny Boyle, director of the eight-Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, will bring Ralston's story of entrapment and survival to the big screen in 127 Hours.
So, who is man enough to portray Ralston and his epic? Hopefully, James Franco is. The actor, who has starred in Milk, Spiderman, and in the more distant past, Freaks and Geeks, was recently named to the role. The video below shows Ralston describing the amputation in specific detail, which Franco will have to do justice, not to mention Ralston's subsequent 65-foot one-armed rappel and hike out.
