Trailspace readers often talk about wanting to combine their outdoor passion with a complimentary career. Well, if your dream office is a National Park, check out the job listings at USAjobs.gov, the official job site for the United States Federal Government.

Permanent career, temporary, and seasonal positions as biologists, maintenance workers, cartographers, civil engineer, rangers, guides, forest fire technicians, and more are listed on the site. To view openings, visit USAjobs.gov to search jobs and refine results by selecting "Interior, Department of the."

Individuals who want to volunteer or intern in a National Park should visit www.nps.gov/getinvolved/volunteer.htm and www.nps.gov/aboutus/jobsforstudents.htm

Also check out this website www.coolworks.com they list all the Nat'l parks looking for help yearround plus many other cool outdoor jobs with state parks, forestry and NPS, youth camps, Dude ranches, etc. I have gotten many a job thru them with Yosemite, Glacier, Zion, the Grand Canyons Rims and Denali Parks since 1996.

Many parks are run by a company called Xanterra. If you go to their site at a certain nat'l park and fill out their application online, you can choose up to 3 parks or jobs at a park. Your work application will be kept on file indefinately. Each new year or season you can sign back into Xanterra application site and add new employment experience without having to re-type all the already filed in information.
