The Trailspace Tagline Contest

We Have a Winner!

Back in October we announced the Trailspace tagline contest because 1) we needed a tagline and 2) we wanted to hear what you, our readers and reviewers, thought of Trailspace. Well, 170 thoughtful, witty, funny, and unique taglines later we’ve heard you loud and clear and Trailspace has its tagline.

Reading all of the submissions was a lot of fun. Their styles ran the gamut, from the straightforward (“The Online Guide to Outdoor Gear “and “Your Guide to Gear, News, Everything Outdoors!”) to the clever and unique (“Get The Latest Dirt on Outdoor Gear,” “Get ‘The Inside’ on the Outside,” “Grab the World by the Trails,” “Because Out is In,” and “In-Tent-ional Grounding”).

But, we had to pick one from the many. We made lists, considered and discussed all the angles, and decided on a succinct and simple tagline that captured Trailspace’s mission, in only five words. Amazingly, two people had sent in the same tagline independently. It felt like fate.

So here it is, announcing the Trailspace tagline (drum roll, please):

Trailspace: Gear Up and Get Out

We chose “Gear Up and Get Out” because, well, that’s what Trailspace is about—helping backcountry enthusiasts find the right gear so they can get outside and do their thing. For submitting the winning tagline Jeffrey Perez and Christopher Ryan will each receive a $100 Altrec.com gift certificate and Trailspace hats and shirts featuring their tagline (as well as bragging rights).

Jeff is originally from New Orleans, but now lives in Odenton, Md. He works as a government contractor, but stays busy outdoors running, hiking, and rock climbing, and he recently started skiing, something he couldn’t do in Louisiana, he points out.

Christopher is from Savannah, Ga., but attends Georgia State University in Atlanta. He says he began backpacking on the Appalachian Trail out of necessity, because he “can only stand the concrete of Atlanta for short periods of time.” He has now made his way up through Tennessee as an AT section hiker.

Thanks for the tagline, Jeff and Christopher, and congratulations to you both!

An honorable mention goes to Emily Shufeldt, who’ll receive some Trailspace swag for her very similar submission of “Gear Up. Head Out.” Emily, an architectural designer in Cincinnati, completed the Inca Trail last summer with her fiancé and is busy making gear picks for their honeymoon. "Africa and Mt. Kili are on our short list," she says.

The winner of our random drawing for another $100 Altrec.com gift certificate is Ron Cook from Menifee, Calif., who likes to climb and hike in southern Nevada.

Thanks to everyone who sent in tagline submissions. It was a lot of fun hearing from you and reading your creative words. Your participation is what makes Trailspace such a great backcountry community.

Now, Gear up and Get Out!
