Have I found boot nirvana? Unlikely, but I seem to have found boots that actually come close to fitting my size 14, wide fore-foot, narrow heel, low volume, flat arch feet. I am wearing these with my custom orthotics, sans the stock footbed.
Break in time was not too bad, some heel blisters. Preventive application of "compeed" keeps things at bay. After my first real medium duty trip into the Grand Canyon I can attest to the happiest feet in over 10 years.
I've worn out 3 pairs of boots during this period Vasque SH-II, Merrill Wilderness, Montrail always opting to try new boots rather than 3 more years of the same old pain and suffering with new soles.
These Danners are heavy, allegedly waterproof (haven't tested this yet) and extremely supportive without being so stiff as to cause excessive fatigue. The one improvement suggestion I'll make is to add some padding to the tongue, I do get sore spots on the front of my shins.
In all, if you're foot size/shape is anywhere near mine, and you need orthotics these are worth a try.
