Marmot Thunder Bay Parka

rated 5 of 5 stars Best Parka. Thank you, Marmot! Pros: WARMTH! Let me keep it simple, in -40 Celsius w/ wind-chill, you won't complain about the weather, as long as you put on the hoody and a good scarf, and good gloves of course. Sometime when it's super windy like 30KM/h wind, you do feel the wind around the elbow a little, but this will keep you warm for sure! QUALITY! Top new material, zippers are great, I love the velcros quality. The inside heat reflecting material is definitely my favorite! The outer membrane… Full review

Eddie Bauer Men's First Ascent Downlight Sweater

rated 5 of 5 stars The Eddie Bauer First Ascent Downlight Sweater Jacket is fantastic. It's warm and compressible with 800-fill down. It fits well and looks great. After trying multiple light down jackets, this jacket was the clear winner in terms of design, fit and looks.  DESIGN The 800-fill down makes the jacket extremely warm and compresses down to the size of a softball. The shell fabric has a DWR finish making it highly wind and water resistant The jacket can be stuffed into its own pocket Fleece lined pockets… Full review

The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka

rated 5 of 5 stars Went to Iceland in February 2015. This parka was absolutely fantastic, could not feel cold at all with just a tee shirt on underneath. Temperature in Rekyav was -8° and snowing, no chill felt. Went out of town to Gullfoss waterfalls, temperature was -15° and still warm in this jacket. We went on snowmobile for about an hour and temperature was measured at -22°. This jacket coupled with North Face Montana Gloves was faultless. I actually sweated. Well done, North Face. Would recommend this parka… Full review

MontBell Men's Alpine Light Down Parka

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Warm and light, this is a great down jacket for shoulder season use — very good bargain too! This is my go-to down jacket for shoulder season use; it's usually too warm for summer use and there are plenty of lighter options. With over 4 ounces of 800 down, this jacket is warm! Not sure where the original review came from, but mine in size Large is 12.8 oz, pretty svelte for such a warm jacket. The hood is nicely cut and adjustable.  Two nice zippered pockets that are lined w/ fleece. I really… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Incandescent Hoody

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Nice, warm, light down parka. Fit/finish top notch. This is a really nice, lightweight down jacket w/ ~ 7 oz of 800 down.  I find it very warm for the weight, my Large comes in at 17.1 oz. Compresses small and packs into its own stuff sack (utilizing one of the pockets). It has a good DWR finish, will shed snow and light precip nicely. I like the longer cut vs other lightweight parkas that are waist length. Has a dual direction zipper and a nice drawstring bottom. It has a handy "Napoleon" upper… Full review

The North Face Himalayan Parka

rated 3 of 5 stars Decent jacket, but needs some fine tuning. The arms are the biggest let down, need more baffles to keep down in place. Live in the far north Canada, -40° is way too common for my liking, and the jacket is pretty good except for the arms. It's way too warm to wear in -20°, unless you're just sitting around. If you're walking -30° to 40°. Not good for strenuous activity like skiing or biking, waaaaay too hot. When the wind is howling it gets in through the bottom. An easy fix would be a powder… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Men's Hooded Phantom Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Like wearing a cloud of warmth, the Phantom Hooded Jacket keeps you toasty in the coldest temperatures and packs down small enough to bring on every trip. Highly recommended for anyone pursuing outdoor fun in very cold environments. I received the Mountain Hardwear Phantom Hooded Jacket for testing towards the end of Fall 2014 and tested it from that point through Mid-February 2015 in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This time period saw temperatures ranging from 40 degrees above 0 to 30 degrees… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Women's Kelvinator Hooded Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars The Kelvinator is a warm, lightweight, compressible down jacket that has become my go-to in the backcountry this winter! The abundance of snow and persistently below-zero temperatures that have defined winter in New England this year have prompted my search for the ultimate puffy jacket this season. (Consequently, I have spent many an evening basking in the glow of a Trailspace search.) I was initially drawn to the Kelvinator by its price tag. Full retail is around $280, which I found to be well… Full review

The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka

rated 3 of 5 stars Had to add velcro around the neck for the hood since the zipper is just in the middle, which leaves two holes where you get cold. Also had to put a wire in the hood to hold it up. The hood is made to fit a helmet underneath, but without helmet the hood gets into your eyes. There could be a mesh pocket inside for a water bottle! Full review
