Outdoor Research Men's Filament Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This ultralight down packable jacket is the perfect addition to my backpacking setup. Lightweight, packable, versatile, warm. This ultralight down packable jacket is the perfect addition to my backpacking setup. Similar to the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer, this jacket is warm, windproof, water resistant (haven't tried it standalone in rain, and wouldn't—nothing worse than wearing wet down), super packable, and super light. I never go on a backpacking trip without this item. It hardly takes… Full review

Rab Men's Continuum Hoodie

rated 5 of 5 stars The perfect high mountain backpacking down jacket. There is almost nothing better than backpacking in the Sierra in late summer/early fall when the nights can get chilly. Temps can routinely get into the 30s and 20s—and even the teens. I remember one morning below Mt. Whitney in late September it was 17 degrees at 6 a.m. When that happens, there is nothing better than having a great down jacket. Unfortunately, that morning I did not have one. I had some layers, a down vest, and a stocking cap. Full review

MontBell Men's EX Light Down Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great for summer backpacking in Sierras, Rockies, Cascades. Works well as lightweight warmth on backcountry ski days. I have primarily used the jacket on backpacking trips — on chilly nights in the summer above 10,000 ft. and most every night in late September to October above 10,000 ft. So lightweight and compactable, hardly know it is in the pack. Far better than carrying a heavier down jacket, vest, heavy polypro. Oh, and it was plenty warm too. I have spent many a night at 15 - 20 degrees… Full review

Columbia Men's Diamond 890 TurboDown Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars Warm, lightweight jacket that is great for both city and outdoor use. This is a great down jacket. A combination of warmth and breathability are what I look for because getting uncomfortably sweaty whilst hiking is never a good experience. The fit of the jacket is snug, but still able to accommodate extra layers underneath if they are needed. A good hood also compliments the fit, with it turning with your head without the need for cords.  As with most down jackets it is not great in the rain. Saying… Full review

Outdoor Research Transcendent Hoody

rated 5 of 5 stars Outdoor Research is great for returns, even if it's your fault. Warm and comfortable. Zipper works great. With the first Transcendent Hoody I hiked the Bonds last winter and was in very strong winds getting blown over and falling in spruce traps. I couldn't change jackets and ripped the jacket a couple times. I called OR told them this story and asked for a place in N.H. that could repair the rips. The customer service rep said I can do better than that, give me your address and size we'll send… Full review

Montane Anti-Freeze 2.0 Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars Medium weight down jacket that offers a good balance between warmth and portability. This jacket weighs about 550g (19oz) in size large. It contains 200 grams (7oz) of 650+ fill power down encased in a 50 denier polyester shell. By way of comparison, the Rab Cirque — another down jacket of roughly similar overall weight — has 260g (9oz) of insulation encased in a 30 denier shell. The Montane is therefore not as warm, but is made of tougher outer material.   The Montane Anti-Freeze 2.0 has… Full review

Patagonia Women's Down Sweater

rated 5 of 5 stars Feels nice next to my skin and is light weight; great for layering.  I purchased the jacket to wear in the cool winter months in Arizona.  It provides warmth without bulk and can easily be worn over a fleece if necessary.  The temps in Arizona can dip greatly once one sun sets.  Since I am 5'3" 120 pounds with an athletic build, I found the xs fit well with just a tee shirt.  After one year,  I purchased a small to wear with fleece.  The arm length is never a problem for me, but the shoulders… Full review

Patagonia Women's Down Sweater

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Great lightweight, packable jacket. Great for base layer jacket in Minnesota winters and also year-round as a light jacket while hiking/biking/camping. Great jacket overall. Packs into its own pocket so great for travel, camping, etc. Overall fit is great. I'm 5'6"/145#, bigger athletic build, wide shoulders with  longer arms. The XL fits great, good to layer, sleeves fit my arms great. I've worn this in the snow in winter and camping in the summer. Breathes well.  I have had this jacket for two… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Men's Ghost Whisperer Down Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars Super lightweight, warm jacket that has served me well until recently. The company logo began to wear off, which did not affect its intended purpose, but then a couple of stitches broke loose too so I sent it in for warranty service. It was less than 3 years old and based on some unfavorable warranty reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Within three days of MH receiving the jacket I got an email telling me a credit of $320 was being issued to me. Within a week's time after that I received a new… Full review
