Princeton Tec Byte

rated 3 of 5 stars This headlamp was good on batteries and packed up small, pretty bright for my vision and easy to turn on and off. It lasted maybe 3 years but now it won't turn on and I see that this is not unusual for the PTec Byte. Could see maybe 20 feet in clear conditions. Beam was not adjustable and somewhat narrow width.  Full brightness would last a few days. I used rechargeable batteries with mine. Easy to use, just a single button for 3 modes. Construction looked durable but it just stopped working,… Full review

Black Diamond Icon

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great, rugged light. Lasts for 100's of hours on high-med diffuse beam using rechargeable batteries (longer on lithiums of course). I've had good luck with Black Diamond headlamps. I bought the Gemini back around 2002 and that lasted almost 10 years before the battery case finally cracked enough to let rain in... I've had the Icon since around 2012 and it still looks pretty new. It gets almost nightly use while I go feed my livestock. I've used it on weeknight hikes in the pouring rain without any… Full review

Eagles Nest Outfitters Twilights

rated 3 of 5 stars If you can get it on sale, get it for sure. Simple battery operated string lights to use anywhere and anyhow you want, but the tent is most logical. Full review

Petzl Tikka R+

rated 5 of 5 stars The Petzl Tikka R+ is a high-end yet affordable headlamp option, ideal for the night crawler. It's rechargeable lithium-ion powered, reactive high output LED beam will ensure safe passage on the trail after the sun goes down. The weight and balance of the R+ is supported by a super comfortable easy adjust elastic band. While not exactly sleek, the headlamp is not cumbersome, and would surely satisfy outdoor enthusiast illumination needs on the trail. The Tikka R+ is best used for trail use. While… Full review

Princeton Tec Apex

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This headlamp is a good buy. It works very well for night hiking and navigation. The spot beam is useful for route finding, and the flood is very nice. The spot beam on this headlamp has a really good range, about 300' or so, and is plenty bright enough to navigate at night. It does drain the batteries though, and can use them up in about an hour, so I only use the spot when I need to see something far away. For the rest of the time, the flood is almost perfect on this light, and does nicely. Usually,… Full review

Coleman Exponent 4AA Pack-Away Lantern

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Compact light with a punch. If you're looking for a small compact light, this won't disappoint you. This small light will perform just as good if not better then some other lights to this size or a bit bigger and it doesn't break the bank. Works great for camping, sitting on the deck, power outages, etc. I own several of these little guys cause several of these going at once makes terrific lighting. Totally recommend this product. Fenix CL20

rated 5 of 5 stars My favorite camping lantern. Watch my review! Have fun. Full review

Black Diamond Orbit

rated 3.5 of 5 stars A durable, little lantern that can add sufficient light to a tent or campsite. Good for car campers, kids, and those of us hikers who don't mind a little extra weight in our packs if it means more/extra lighting in camp. Conditions:I’ve been using this for nearly one year in a variety of cool (40-60°F) and warm weather (60-80°F) overnight trips, both car-camping and backpacking. It’s been exposed to wet (both humidity and rain) conditions with no ill effect, but never immersed in water. I’ve… Full review

Petzl MYO 5

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Though heavy by today's standards, this headlamp lasts forever and never breaks. I have been using this lamp for 4 years now. I have a lighter lamp but I keep going back to the Myo. The 5 LED setting lasts an extremely long time. I change the batteries out maybe 3 times a year and use it for night hikes at least once a month and I use it at home all the time. The 4 AA batteries can power the small LEDs forever. The halogen setting draws a lot of energy and is only good for about 4 hours or so. I'm… Full review
