Spider 62

rated 5 of 5 stars If you're looking for an excellent set of XC skis, I recommend the Fischer Spider 62's. These skis can be used on groomed XC trails and especially off-trails. The full metal edge will give you the grip you need while in the backcountry trails, indeed. Well, here goes, my review of my Fischer Spiders XC skis. I recently picked them up at REI Outfitters in Troy, Michigan. As a matter of fact, I picked them up the day after Michigan was dumped on by the first major snowfall in 2017! When I walked into… Full review

Spider 62

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent skis for track or light back-country. I've been xc skiing since I was a kid growing up in Michigan—50 years! I love these skis. With full metal edges, they are perfect for skiing on snowmobile tracks or in light powder. They have a nice side cut for easy turning, and are slender enough to use in classic tracks on the golf course as well. I can even skate with them! I let a friend who is fairly new to xc skiing use them once, and she immediately bought a pair. Same thing for my sister. Full review

rated 4 of 5 stars Nicely-made, burly construction with best-of-class NNN-BC torsional rigidity and ankle support. But made for big feet and ankles only, and the four steps involved in putting these on and taking them off could get tiring (and difficult to do on-trail). These are the nicest-made and burliest "new school" NNN-BC boots I've seen. They have great torsional rigidity and the exoskeleton actually provides superior ankle support (vs. the burly all-leather Alpina Alaska), which I can't say is the case for… Full review

rated 3 of 5 stars Boot materials and design are improving. I have owned this boot for a few years and loved the performance out of the box, but eventually had to abandon them. The older version of this boot (grey and black) has a serious design flaw. The flex point in the boot pinches and squeezes your foot (metatarsus). By the time I finally gave up on this boot my feet remained tender for a couple of weeks. The new model (brown) has an improved design and materials. Apparently (my close friend has a season on the… Full review

SCS Classic

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Affordable yet fast, these skis are a great option for an experienced skier who doesn't want to blow the bank. They are durable enough to use as an everyday or marathon ski, and the NIS plate system makes installing or switching bindings a cinch. I have two pairs of SCS Classics. The price versus performance equation makes these skis a no-brainer. If you're a highly competitive racer, you'll want to move up a few models to shave a few grams and get a faster base, but these are great for a casual… Full review
