Sierra Designs Men's DriDown Rain Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars The Sierra Designs DriDown Rain Jacket is billed as "a single solution for wet, cold environments." It is a waterproof rain shell insulated with DriDown (proprietary treated down which according to Sierra Designs remains dry 10x longer than untreated). It is a very well constructed jacket which for the most part works as Sierra Designs advertises. As a hybrid garment it will have its detractors who prefer traditional layering, but there are enough positive features that most people would find this… Full review

The North Face Men's Venture Jacket

rated 1.5 of 5 stars Great rain jacket if you are not moving. 400-foot mountain bike climb in 4.5 miles had me soaking wet under this jacket (outside temp 38 degrees F), with fleece under that and a base layer under that. Head soaked as well. Lousy. Keep seeing very pos review of this technology. Guess I am missing what others are raving about. Good fit. Holds up to rain on 50°F summer rain. Poor wicking performance on 38°F winter day, no rain but cycling hard up incline. Full review

Lowe Alpine Triple Point Ceramic Jacket

rated 0.5 of 5 stars I own three of these TPC jackets. All different styles. All three have failed with the lining flaking off. These are not jackets to count on for long term use. I have a Gortex jacket that I bought 26 years ago. It has lived in my pack in Europe, South America, and Africa. Still my jacket of choice.  The TPC worked, but wetted out after a week on the trail. Lowe Alpine recoated the outside. Now the lining is flaking off, as are the linings of the other two I own. None of these has gotten a tenth… Full review

Marmot Alpinist Climbing Jacket III

rated 5 of 5 stars This jacket has to be the most durable jacket I have ever owned. Marmot keeps replacing any ripped or burnt panel. Sometimes I can forgo a light pack because of the pockets or take a smaller pack. The venting is great. I use the wide cuffs as wind scoops on sunny spring days to cool down. It's nice to know you can use a jacket and not have to baby it. Tear or melt a panel- Marmot fixes it for cheap. I just duct tape the ripped panel until I get back home- and on 2 weeks its back good as new. I just… Full review

L.L.Bean Traverse Alpine Anorak

rated 2.5 of 5 stars This jacket was bought to replace an old (and falling apart), no longer waterproof, off-brand anorak, which I loved for winter hiking and snowshoeing. I waited until this jacket went on sale at L.L. Bean, and was a bit dubious, due to the less than stellar reviews on the Bean site. But with free returns shipping, I thought it worth a try. It took two attempts to get the correct one, but now I think this jacket will suit me fine for my winter adventures. I like anoraks for winter use....my old one… Full review

Luke's Ultralite Silnylon Rain Shell

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is a light, packable, and well made rain jacket that is excellent for wind protection and light rain. This is a well made silnylon rain jacket that packs very small. I am 5'8" and 170 lbs. A Large fits well allowing a light fleece as a base layer.   I purchased the jacket with the pit zips and adjustable cuffs (both worth the money IMHO). The hood has a good adjustment and fits well. I have used this jacket now for three seasons, in a variety of conditions including several driving rain storms. Full review

Helly Hansen Odin Minimalist Rain Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars For under 6 ounces, this rain shell makes a lightweight addition to a pack. Used as an emergency layer, it breathes as well as a waterproof jacket can and layers easily with a down jacket in the cooler months. This three-season minimalist jacket used for hiking or biking packs small, but the small size, light weight, and durability comes at a higher price than others, though will be enticing to UL backpackers. Preface: I was lucky enough to win this jacket in a Facebook contest back in August for… Full review

Wiggy's Cagoule

rated 4 of 5 stars I own two Wiggy's bags, a bivy sack, a rain jacket, and six ecotats made by Wiggy's. All are over built and what I would call BET YOUR LIFE GEAR. The temp ratings tend to be very conservative. The #10 YKK zippers are bulky but built to last. I would not hesitate to buy Wiggy's products or give them to loved ones; they are that good. Cagoule/ rain jacket: This item is extremely well made, the seams are fully taped, and the item is overbuilt. The Cagoule would be a world beater if it was a little… Full review

L.L.Bean Women's Trail Model Raincoat

rated 5 of 5 stars I have been using this raincoat for about a year and I highly recommend it. The best part about this raincoat is the hood, in my opinion. It has a velcro flap in the back that allows to adjust the depth of the hood. It has a two-way zipper, which is excellent for those days when I need to walk faster, and need as much freedom of movement as I can get. Overall this coat is boxy, and I recommend sizing down for a more form-fitting experience. I have long arms and this coat has sleeves long enough… Full review
