Luke's Ultralite Silnylon Rain Shell

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is a light, packable, and well made rain jacket that is excellent for wind protection and light rain. This is a well made silnylon rain jacket that packs very small. I am 5'8" and 170 lbs. A Large fits well allowing a light fleece as a base layer.   I purchased the jacket with the pit zips and adjustable cuffs (both worth the money IMHO). The hood has a good adjustment and fits well. I have used this jacket now for three seasons, in a variety of conditions including several driving rain storms. Full review

Helly Hansen Odin Minimalist Rain Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars For under 6 ounces, this rain shell makes a lightweight addition to a pack. Used as an emergency layer, it breathes as well as a waterproof jacket can and layers easily with a down jacket in the cooler months. This three-season minimalist jacket used for hiking or biking packs small, but the small size, light weight, and durability comes at a higher price than others, though will be enticing to UL backpackers. Preface: I was lucky enough to win this jacket in a Facebook contest back in August for… Full review

Wiggy's Cagoule

rated 4 of 5 stars I own two Wiggy's bags, a bivy sack, a rain jacket, and six ecotats made by Wiggy's. All are over built and what I would call BET YOUR LIFE GEAR. The temp ratings tend to be very conservative. The #10 YKK zippers are bulky but built to last. I would not hesitate to buy Wiggy's products or give them to loved ones; they are that good. Cagoule/ rain jacket: This item is extremely well made, the seams are fully taped, and the item is overbuilt. The Cagoule would be a world beater if it was a little… Full review

L.L.Bean Women's Trail Model Raincoat

rated 5 of 5 stars I have been using this raincoat for about a year and I highly recommend it. The best part about this raincoat is the hood, in my opinion. It has a velcro flap in the back that allows to adjust the depth of the hood. It has a two-way zipper, which is excellent for those days when I need to walk faster, and need as much freedom of movement as I can get. Overall this coat is boxy, and I recommend sizing down for a more form-fitting experience. I have long arms and this coat has sleeves long enough… Full review

Lowe Alpine Triple Point Ceramic Jacket

rated 1.5 of 5 stars I would not recommend this jacket because the lining has completely flaked off and looks like dandruff which gets on everything. The jacket was bought new and started flaking within one year of only wearing it a couple of times a month. The overall fit is good with convenient, adjustable cuffs and the zipper is of good quality. It is easy to wear layers under this jacket. The downside is that the entire inside lining is completely flaked away and looks like dandruff and gets over everything, making… Full review

Berghaus VapourLight Hyper Smock

rated 3.5 of 5 stars With its claim as the lightest rain jacket in the world — if you are looking for the absolute lightest weight rain jacket you can find, this is it. But, you must be able to live with very minimal features. I really like this jacket for its simplicity and extremely lightweight and packability. It could be a good choice for a hiker, backpacker, cyclist, or anyone that needs the lightest gear possible. If you want a jacket with more functionality, find a jacket with a couple more features and a couple… Full review

Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great rain jacket. I have used this jacket extensively and would definitely buy it again. Picked it up for $70 at the end of season sale at Gander Mountain. I tested immediately on a warm(er) January rainy day. Kept me dry and fit great. I used it for a 50 day thru hike. It worked well in the rain and as an alternate lightweight jacket for the cool mornings. Fit well, has not shown any wear through all of this. Only drawback I can tell is that it does need to be washed regularly. As you perspire,… Full review

EMS Men's Thunderhead Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars The Thunderhead Jacket is a lightweight, waterproof, and windproof jacket suitable for use in all seasons. The rollaway hood is easily accessible and doesn't fill up with rain if you'd rather wear a rain hat. Exterior pockets are large and easy to access. Long pit zips help ventilate even in warmer weather. I bought my EMS Thunderhead Jacket about a year ago because I needed a lightweight, waterproof and windproof shell for 4-season use. It's completely waterproof, and the pit zips allow for excellent… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Paladin Jacket

rated 4 of 5 stars A great, no-nonsense rain shell from OR. Lightweight and truly waterproof. If you're looking for a basic rain layer for outdoor activities, this is a great option. It'll keep you dry during even the strongest rain and is sort of lightweight. However, it won't keep you warm by itself (but is super layering-friendly) and the hood is awkwardly large without a helmet, but still does its job. Also, as this is a climbing-oriented jacket, it's weird there's no pack-up-and-clip-to-harness bag included. Full review
