Kelty Dune

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Dune has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best weekend packs for 2024.

I purchased this pack at a liquidation sale in Albany, N.Y., in 1998. The price tag was $199. I used it for the first time 8/18/02 and climbed Mount Marcy, the highest peak in New York (5344'). What an excellent pack! Stable, tight and conforming. Lots of features that ALL really work. I knew at the time I bought it someday it would be used. Now that I am dating a hiking addict, the bargin is paying off. My only complaint is the difficulty reaching the water bottle pockets. Otherwise, I would recommend this pack to anyone looking for a mid size pack.

This was the first internal frame pack I used. It fits well and doesn't extend too far outboard, a real plus when in heavy brush. The bottle pockets are nearly impossible to reach while wearing the pack. The adjustments were easy and it took only about 15 min. to get a good fit. Throughout the course of the hike I never had to readjust the suspension. Capacity is a bit small if you are someone who likes to take along things like cameras and such. A well made and solid performing pack.
