User Review: Kelty Typhoon 2

Rating: rated 3 of 5 stars
Design: four-season freestanding dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: Difficult
Weight: about 10 lbs
Price Paid: $400 CDN

I bought this tent four years ago. It is an earlier model without all the current version's little zippered vents. We have use it for extended trips in Ontario and northern Quebec.

I hate this tent. The poles catch in the sleeves on the material and on each other both on setup and on takedown. Very patience-trying when the bugs are bad and/or it's raining. Kelty says you can set this tent up with the fly attached. I don't know how I could possibly manage that!

I love this tent. Once set up it is like a rock in all conditions. It ventilates like a 3 season for warm windless nights, yet can be closed up tight from the inside if it starts to rain. Too bad Kelty doesn't make clip tents. With an easier setup it would be perfect. NOTE: The pockets will wear through if set up on rock in windy conditions, allowing the poles to pop through. Protect with Duct tape.
