I give this hiking pole 3 stars for its strength and durability but a big zero for winter hiking or snowshoeing.
I used these poles on several snowshoeing hikes this winter then one day the locking mechanism froze up and they wouldn't tighten up. I was stuck up a mtn. in Vermont w/o any help from my poles. The difference this trip was that I carried them for while before using them. On previous trips I had always extended and tightened them up at takeoff.
I traded for some Black Diamond poles with the flick-lock system. No problems.
