Mammut Infinity 9.5 mm
Source: bought it new
An excellent rope for both sport climbing and trad.
- Good strength-to-weight ratio
- Handles well
- Available in bi-color and 70 m
I bought a 70 m, bi-color (color change at midpoint) for use in El Potrero Chico. The length and color scheme facilitated two combining 100' pitches and efficient rappels off long sport routes. The 9.5 mm diameter is a reasonable compromise of weight and beefiness. The rope handles smoothly without feeling slick.
I also used it this fall leading trad in the Gunks. No complaints, and the 70 m length allowed us to sometimes combine what was normally two rappels (for a 60 m) into one. Sweet.

At only 58g per meter and with a dry-treated core and sheath, the Mammut Infinity COATINGfinish superDRY 9.5mm x 60m rope is an excellent choice for multipitch climbs up in the mountains. COATINGfinish(TM) process uses a Teflon(R) coating to reduce friction and allow fibers to glide against each other for optimal load distribution and durability. superDRY(TM) sheath and core treatment protects against water and dirt, thereby increasing the durability of the rope; also maintains smooth handling characteristics. Kernmantle design combines durable braided sheath and shock-absorbent core for protection from fall forces. 9.5mm diameter is light and useful on alpine climbs yet strong and durable enough to use at the crag. 60m length allows long leads and rappels. Middle of the rope is marked with a black bar to facilitate rappels. Infinity rope comes lap coiled and ready for use, eliminating the time-consuming task of uncoiling a new rope to keep it from becoming twisted. The Mammut Infinity COATINGfinish superDRY 9.5mm x 60m dry rope meets UIAA tests for falls, impact force and elongation.
If you want a light line but don't want to sacrifice durability, get yourself the 9.5mm Mammut Infinity. This rope weighs a scant 58g/m, making it a perfect pick for alpine routes and high-end sport climbs where every ounce really makes a difference. Unlike other ropes, the Infinity uses Mammut's Teflon coating process which covers each fiber individually to reduce internal friction and increase the line's life span.
