Moonstone is now owned by Esprit. I am hopeful that they won’t lose product ideas like the Momentum Tech Jacket. Based on a very simplistic yet well designed concept this jacket has won me over. It's lightweight (24oz.), simple, has the best inner pocket I’ve ever seen; this pocket is flat yet stretches enough to contain a full size Nalgene water bottle (good for those subfreezing days). The two outside pockets are fully gore-tex reinforced and waterproof (no mesh).
As a matter of fact this jacket contains no mesh, only well sewn and tailored components that are based on a lightweght, simple blueprint. These jackets are not trendy like North Face, Marmot, and soon to be trendsetters Arc’teryx jackets, but they sure are well constructed and designed. I just hope Moonstone sticks with their supposed philosophy of "no extra crap" and doesn't sell out to commercialism. In my opinion the Moonstone Momentum Tech is sufficient for any usage and represents a good balance of quality and functionality.

Fabric: 3 ply. Momentum Gore-Tex / 3 ply Dynamic Gore-tex
Price Paid: 350 dollars
Great jacket. Waterproof outerpockets with an enourmous space and very long waterproof ventilation zips. Important for climbers, the hood is big enough to wear over a helmet.
During several daytrips, climbs and overnight trips in soaking dutch rain, sometimes snow, wind and frozen tempratures the jacket kept me warm and dry. It is a great feeling! The jacket is really a strong barrier and gives great protection.
If you want a jacket, light, strong enought for backpacking, roomy enough to wear warm clohing under, durable enough to resist many years and supple enough to climb or ski, the Momentum Tech Parka should be a jacket to try.
Greetings, and let me know if you have similar (or other) experiences with the jacket!

Fabric: 3-ply Nylon Gore-Tex
Price Paid: $321 CDN (on sale)
Excellent jacket -- kept me warm and dry for three weeks of hiking with frequent driving rain in summer and also for six days of wet ice climbing. No signs of wear yet, pit zips and hood work very well, and there is plenty of storage space with the large pockets. Smaller dealer network means it might be hard to find, but is well worth the effort!

Great parka! This was one of the old Moonstone's last products, and the last generation to be made in the USA. Excellent 3-layer Gore-tex hardshell jacket, very light for the protection it provides. Excellent stitching and good hood design.
This jacket kicks ass! Really light, really tough.

This jacket kicks ass! Really light, really tough. I've taken it everywhere from the Adirondacks to the Waddington Range, B.C. Not a complaint!
