Rating: rated 4.5 of 5 stars

Summary

This pad is lightweight and fits in your pack very well for backpacking trips. It is very comfortable, durable, and inflates very quickly. The company has excellent customer service. I contacted them to order a new air valve and they sent it to me for free.

Pros

  • Very comfortable
  • Durable
  • Affordable

Cons

  • A little heavier than the similar Thermarest mattress

I have owned my Nemo Astro Air pad for four years. It has been used extensively on multi night trips into the backcountry. It has proven to be very durable.

I see some reviews on other sites that complain about the built-in pillow. I really love the pillow feature on the pad.

It inflates rapidly and Nemo also sells an inflatable pump that is very lightweight. It also deflates easily and rapidly for packing back into your pack after use.

Manufacturer's Description

Many miles from the hum and buzz of workaday life, the last thing you want to disturb your deep sleep is a pesky root or a fistful of gravel. Forget your typical inch thick backcountry pad, Astro is a full 2.5" thick. Lateral baffles make the pad feel wider and smoother, and 75D polyester fabric resists puncture while keeping the weight down.

Use the integrated valve for inflation, or attach the optional ultralight Disco Pad Pump for a speedy setup. Astro pads include a stuff sack, compression strap, and repair patches. Available in Air, Air Short, or Insulated models.

The lateral baffles inflate up to 2. 5 inches above the bumpy ground so you can sleep without a stone pressing up against your back. This pad compresses down smaller than a Jetboil stove, and its stuff sack makes sure the pad doesn't bulk up your pack when space is something to worry about, which it basically is on every backpacking trip.
