This tent has been awesome!

For the last six years my family and I have taken trips to the Ocracoke Island, NC. (On the outer banks) The first year we were there, we were hit by the edge of a tropical storm and weathered 55-60 mph winds and the tent stayed upright. (We honestly didn't think that it would and bailed on her into the van to wait out the storm!)

When the weather cleared, we did find that we needed to use 12" tent stakes on ALL of the tent, including the bay windows! (The wind uprooted the short ones and the bay windows just funneled all the water from the roof into the back section of the tent!)

It was a lesson well learned, and after that trip we have had no troubles at all with this tent. It needs to be waterproofed again, and we do it about once a year because we use the tent all year long unless it's too cold.

There have been times when just two of us have put up the tent at 2 in the morning by the headlights of a car! It's easy. It's fast. And we love it!

We like so much we ended up going out and buying the smaller model "Vacation Cottage" since the kids are almost grown and now it will be just the two of us on our family vacations!

Camp on!!

Well, I went home to Virgina and didn't have any of my tents or sleeping bags, just climbing gear. I was asked to take the Scouts on a rock climbing/camping trip. This I did, but all I had was this Northwest Territory tent, I thought, what a piece of crap.

However, the first night it rained really hard, you know a good Virgina downpour, and the tent kept me dry as a bone. There was some condensation, but I thought it wasn't that bad for how much humidity was in the air. I was just impressed that the little tent kept me dry and rain free, while the boys in the big Kelty tent got soaked.

So, in a testament for Northwest Territory tents, this one kept me dry. It is not built too pretty, neither are the fiberglass poles nice, but it kept me dry when I needed to be dry. I just thought I would share that with you all.

I love this tent! Unfortunately last winter so did mice. I have a few holes to repair in the floor. I purchased another (16 X 14) tent of the same design. The most important thing to remember is to set up and tie down using ALL the straps and ropes. If not, BIG Mistake. The ropes that go in front of the doors are a pain but without them plan to have 10 gallons of water above each door. After correcting this mistake at 4 am in the rain we had no further trouble despite high winds and LOTS of rain. After numerous trips the zippers are fine they only caught once when my daughter tried to zip it closed too fast.

The tent case is toast due to mouse damage, if anyone has one to give away or sell please let me know.

Design: 14 X 14 Cabin

We bought the Cottage Tent that sleeps 10. My husband and I put it up with zero trouble (exactly as the directions state). We camped with five children, ages 4-13. This is a wonderful tent, in fact several parents have asked where we bought it. The people who had problems and posted negative comments apparently didn't follow the manufacturer's directions. And yes, it did go through rain and a windy day. I highly recommend this Northwest Cottage Tent.

PS. It was a raincheck with K-mart, who shipped it from Ohio to Missouri for us, and I got it $5 cheaper. What great customer service.

Design: Cottage
Sleeps: 6+
Ease of Setup: Great directions, no problems-2 people can set up
Price Paid: $145

Very nice tent for the price, easy setup and tear down with two or more people.

Pros

  • The room inside works for us

Cons

  • The closets are useless as no way to hang anything up, just able to stash stuff on the floor out of the way.
  • The zippers seems to get stuck on the outer cover as you are using it, must run your finger along side of the zipper to keep it from getting caught.

Overall a very great tent with ease of setup and tear down. Other campers are in awe of the space inside and the look of the windows.

Loved my cabin tent with utility room. My grandkids and I love camping every summer we are out there but our tent got messed up as my grandkids and husband wanted to surprise me by washing it. Oops they are all really upset and sadden as the tent cannot be repaired.

We had the tent for about four years and we all simply loved it. If anyone out there knows or is sellin one please email me.

Sleeps: 6+
Price Paid: $100

We loved the tent, although we only used it once. The door ripped and we had to return the tent to Kmart. The tent we had, had the bay style windows. And when we went to Kmart to exchange it the style they had in stock did not have bay windows. So we just returned the tent. Now I can't find that tent with bay windows anywhere. Can anyone help me find this tent, or one comparable?

Ease of Setup: relatively Easy

We have camped using this tent for three years. We finally sprung a leak after 2.5 inches fell in the Black Hills. When we dried out and moved on, our pole broke and we had to call it quits. The pole broke under 40-50 mph winds. If we had set up for high winds, we would have been fine. Love this tent. Easy for my daughter and I to set up.

I have had the 4 room deluxe model for 10 years. It is an awesome tent. Unfortunately the 50-60 mph evening storm got me and several poles snapped. Does anyone have a clue if new rods can be purchased? I would hate to discard it over a couple of replaceable rods. Please e-mail me if anyone can help!
