Icebreaker Oasis Balaclava

rated 1 of 5 stars Garbage made with nice material. When I put this thing on, the back of it stops about halfway down my neck. WHY would you not cut it so it was long enough to easily cover the back of your neck? The one thing I really need a balaclava to do is to protect my neck from drafts. This alone is enough for me to send it back. The second nail in an already well-sealed coffin is that when I pull it up over my face, a single exhale fogs my glasses over at room temp. The nose flap doesn't help at all. Overall… Full review

GooseFeet Down Balaclava

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Warmest balaclava ever. Full review

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

rated 5 of 5 stars A great baclava for all your winter needs. I have used this in the Adirondack High Peaks to wear while soaking in some of the best views in the country and to sleep in during winter backcountry camping. I absolutely love mine and it fits perfect, blocks wind, is warm and has some water resistance to it. If needed I always wear a beanie over it instead of under so it doesn't stretch out. I wouldn't recommend wearing a hat under it. To the other reviewer, either you have a knock off or an imperfection… Full review

Fjallraven Sarek Balaclava Cap

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Quite nice balaclava. I bought one of this for myself and one for my wife. She is always stylish and I was surprise that she actually liked. This is a very handsome tuck/balaclava. The wool is of good quality and it provides excellent insulation. I found that the wool can be itchy, yes I have lost some of my hair at this point in my life, but I wear an Icebreaker cap under it and that takes care of the problem. It has a nice cap visor, but I found that it can limit your peripheral vision. On the… Full review

Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava

rated 3 of 5 stars Outdoor Research's Sonic Balaclava is windproof and well-made. However, the overall design seems for use in mountaineering (and skiing?) only. With goggles, the balaclava performs well. Without goggles, it ranks towards the bottom of the balaclavas I have used. I don't believe backpackers and other non-goggle users will find much value with this product. I bought this balaclava for my climb of Mt. Rainier in 2015. I normally wear glasses, but I wore contacts for that trip so that I could rent and… Full review

Rothco ECWCS Polypropylene Balaclava

rated 5 of 5 stars Base layer, insulator, and above all vapor barrier, this balaclava is a useful tool to have in your cold weather quiver. All but supplanted by the modern polyester version the polypropylene balaclavas can still be found and are worth looking for if you're wanting vapor barrier over a wicking base layer. Light, small, and inexpensive, yet such a useful thing to have along when heading out into the cold for a day or a week the Rothco ECWCS (Extended Cold Weather Clothing System) Polypropylene Balaclava… Full review

Buff UV Half Buff

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a must-have item on a thru hike! Can be used for more than just a head cover! This kept my hair out of my eyes and kept my neck warm at night and my head covered from the sun during the day. I bought this as a last minute item before my JMT hike in August. This ended up being one of my favorite items on my hike and will never leave it behind on any future hike. I wore this for 18 days on the trail! I washed it out daily and used it to cool off during the middle of the day when it was very… Full review

Buff Original Buff

rated 4 of 5 stars Really fun gear to have with you. Very comfortable and not too bulky in neck. Very practical, you can just slip it in a pocket. The all around neck warmer +. Full review

Buff Merino Wool Buff

rated 4 of 5 stars Light, versatile, and good warm go-to layering accessory that has worked its way into most every trip this year. It even has ended up on my neck on winter bike rides to the morning market. Stuffs into a pocket easily. Works as an ear warming headband, an impromptu hat almost anywhere, and a balaclava for nordic skiing. The black wool Buff has been worn and washed so much it is a bit greyish, or faded black, from what it was brand new. As I am not into fashion, true or otherwise black is not a big… Full review
