Chaos Stratus Sombrero

rated 4 of 5 stars Huge brim gives great sun and rain coverage. Floatable brim makes it a perfect for paddle sports. Adjustable for a perfect fit. If you spend a lot of time out in the sun or rain you can't find a hat that does much more than the Chaos Stratus Sombrero. Sombrero hats are made from 100% Polyester and are both breathable and waterproof. The medium size, blue with black brim hat I was given weighs in at 4.5 ounces and measures 15.5 inches front to back and 13 inches side to side, which provides massive… Full review

Chaos Summit Pack-it Hat

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Great lightweight, packable sun hat for the beach, hiking, or backpacking. Good breathability and sweatband. This has been a good hat for sunny days at home, on the beach or on the trail. The fit of the large size hat worked great for me, not too loose or tight, just right. It crushes down to a small package, so you can shove it in a pocket and take it anywhere and it doesn't become all wrinkled after being unpacked. Great as a travel hat to sunny climates but not so great in the rain as the brim… Full review

Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat

rated 5 of 5 stars After trying on every hat in REI (I'm not a hat person), I decided on this one in khaki. It was pricey at $45 at the time I bought it. They are cheaper now. I think they are $24.95. At the time I needed a sun hat so I had to buy one that day. I ended up loving the hat and wear it on every sunny hike. It always is with me on every hike as well. I bought this sun hat last summer. I don't wear hats, so just getting used to wearing a hat took a little while. I like the hat and it does come in handy… Full review

Columbia Men's Omni Shade Silver Ridge Booney

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Replaces my sunscreen. Honestly I've never been a complete fan of these 360 degree brimmed "safari" sun hats. If I'm chilling out in the sun I prefer the straw lifeguard/gardner hats better but those are not hiking hats. I have a few breathable baseball caps that I always wear in the sun on bike rides or hikes but I always end up sun burned if i don't apply sunscreen. So I caved and picked up a couple of these in grey for my girlfriend and I before our treacherous Grand Canyon mission in a week… Full review

Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat

rated 5 of 5 stars Lose the vanity — get this hat. Okay, so you're going to look a little like the girl from True Grit. It's worth it. Hat offers great face, neck, and shoulder coverage. It's lightweight but will lose its shape if you treat it adventure hat. I even wore it once on a Saturday. Full review

Dorfman Pacific MC50 Fishing Hat with Removable Sunshield

rated 2 of 5 stars Like most hats, this one keeps the sun off your face. The bonus here is that it also keeps the sun off you neck with the attachable sunshield. However, the velcro sunshield is prone to detach and is far from stylish. This is an inexpensive hat that I bought at a large sporting goods store because I wanted to keep the sun off my face and neck in the summer months without having to wear something around my neck, like my Original Buff or a bandana.  The hat's adjustability is generous. I have a larger… Full review

Outdoor Research Force 9 Sombrero

rated 1 of 5 stars If you want magnets to throw your compass off, or a slight wind to blow the brim into the up position you might like this hat. I always get a hat that is sized a bit large so I can adjust how it fits on my head, and use the cord lock if wind becomes a problem. I put a compass on the cord and slide it inside my shirt. This hat would be fine except for the magnets. The magnets mean if the wind pushes the brim up at all the magnets grab hold much more often than the velcro ones. This means you are… Full review

Tilley LTM6 Airflo Hat

rated 5 of 5 stars The USPS creed, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom…” may have been close, but they apparently weren’t referring to the Tilley LTM6, otherwise known as the Airflo Hat, when their proposition was adopted. It would have more closely resembled, “Bring on the blinding snow, drenching rain, and scorching heat…” The USPS creed, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom…” may have been close, but they apparently weren’t referring to the Tilley LTM6, otherwise known as the Airflo… Full review

Columbia Bug Me Not Cachalot

rated 3 of 5 stars Provides perfect protection from the sun without being obtrusive. Its folding bill and lightweight material make it easy to stow away. Flap can be tucked away and convert it to a "regular" hat. Love the hat, but "bug me not" may be a bit excessive! Recently received this as a prize and I had my choice of several options; this hat was on my list. Typically when hiking I prefer wearing wider brimmed hats instead of lathering my neck, ears and my face with sunscreen. I've used the old tried-and-true… Full review
