I love this stuff. I have used it forever and never had an issue. It's easy, cheap, light, simple and pretty fast. Don't let rainwater into the bottles of pills and you will be just fine. I have used this in water where I could SEE things swimming around and lived to tell the tale (after the treatment they had stopped swimming).
I never had much issue with the taste of the tablets but with the second tablet the iodine taste disappears. A half or quarter of the taste neutralizer tablet works as well as a whole one. The taste neutralizer is simply ascorbic acid, aka vitamin C!! I have read that iodine and chlorine are not an effective treatment for cryptosporidium so evidently I have dodged that bullet.
If I were really worried I would use UV light, but a Steripen costs more than I have spent on water tablets over my entire life. Filters are cool but why bother?
