Water Purification Tablets with P.A. Plus

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Less weight than a filter, and won't plug up. I took these along on a backcountry elk hunt in 2010 as a backup to a filter water bottle. I am sure glad I did. the filter bottle was a disappointment. The two-part tablets delivered good tasting water with no ill effects. I would fill my Camelbak and water bottles from a small creek, place in the appropriate number of tablets, and wait about 1/2 an hour or more then put the neutralizer tablet in. The taste of the water was good, and after 7-days had… Full review

Chlorine Dioxide Water Purification Tablets

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is the ultimate in light gear. The fact that you have to wait 4 hours to kill cryptosporidium is a little bit of a pain in that I always have to be sure to have enough drinkable water handy. This means I usually carry more than some others (during hot weather I'll carry 4 liters).   I have thought of getting a pump but since I now only go backpacking with a group someone always has one anyway if I really got stuck. There is a slight smell (very slight, some people don't even smell it) but… Full review

Iodine and Taste-Neutralizer Tablets

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I love this stuff. I have used it forever and never had an issue. It's easy, cheap, light, simple and pretty fast. Don't let rainwater into the bottles of pills and you will be just fine. I have used this in water where I could SEE things swimming around and lived to tell the tale (after the treatment they had stopped swimming). I never had much issue with the taste of the tablets but with the second tablet the iodine taste disappears. A half or quarter of the taste neutralizer tablet works as well… Full review

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Very disappointing. The filter might be good but the item does not have a cap to protect the exit of (the purified) water from the several ways in which this type of item can get dirty (in real life). After a one week of using it, water started leaking. The system to close the bottle is clearly poorly designed. The material is of doubtful quality. By the second week it was not possible to drink the water... without taking a shower at the same time!! First it was leaking a few drops but then much… Full review

Water Purification Tablets

rated 3 of 5 stars I used to use these when I first started backpacking 20 years ago. They must be effective since NOLS uses them, but they make the water taste like iodine (no surprise). Then my husband and I met another couple while we were backpacking who were using a First Need water filter (there weren't too many others on the market at that time). They kindly let us filter some water for ourselves. That early water filter basically required two people to use because it didn't attach directly to any container… Full review
