Sea to Summit X-Bowl

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Sea to Summit X-Bowl plate/bowl

I bought this bowl at EMS last minute before a week long trip in the Boundary Waters. It works great and folds flat so it fits in your pack perfectly. The bottom actually makes a good cutting board. JUST BE CAREFUL WITH SHARP KNIVES. It is easy to lose concentration when you are using the cutting board and slice through the side wall.

The only flaws it has are the heat transfer through the silicone, and the ability to slice it to shreds with a sharp knife. The first time I used it eating ramen with hunks of chicken I poked a hole in the side with my spork. It was a quick fix with duct tape for the rest of the trip, but after that I went and bought another one. Won't leave home without it because I haven't found anything better, however, there is still room for improvement.

This bowl folds flat to slip easily into your pack. It extends up well and holds its shape, but it gets hot to touch on the sides and loses its heat quickly.

Pros

  • Compact
  • Reliable

Cons

  • Not insulated

This bowl folds flat to slip easily into your pack. It extends up well and holds its shape, but it gets hot to touch on the sides and loses its heat quickly.

The bottom, however, is made out of sturdy stuff, so sturdy the plate version s advertised as being used as a cutting board. You can do that with this one too as long as the stuff you are cutting up isn't too big. Cheese and crackers, but maybe not a full meal.

It seems well made, but has so far only done about two weeks of service. I have used it backpacking in cold mountains and in the Australian Outback.

The X Bowl is lightweight, 2.8oz, folds flat and includes a cutting board. Nuff said.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Folds flat
  • Bottom doubles as cutting board
  • Holds up to 300 degrees

Cons

  • Natta

Awesome bowl, cool colors, folds flat and the bottom doubles as a cutting board. Compared to the Squishy Bowl and my Outdoor Products bowls, this one wins no problem.

Perfect backpacking bowl.

Pros

  • Easy to pack
  • Lightweight
  • Durable

Purchased a few years ago—tired of eating directly from the packages. Liked the collapsible concept and lightweight.

Zero complaints—used enough to say it's a great product that I expect to have 20 years from now. Priced well also.

This bowl is simply awesometastic for what I use it for. I was looking for a cheap and collapsible bowl I could bring with me when out for the day with my dog. This fit the bill perfectly. It smashes down, takes up very little space as it fits under the frisbee.

The only down side is, my dog thinks it's a frisbee when it's collapsed.

Multitasking camping gear = awesome. Packs down to a wafer, is lightweight, and overall super. The silicon retains odors, though, which may bother some people.
