Silva Helios Storm Lighter

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

The Helios Storm Lighter has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best fire starters for 2024.

Wonderful bit of kit.

After almost burning my fingers off trying to light a recalcitrant stove in a gentle wind and having wet fingers reduce a standard lighter to mush, I vowed to try one of those fancy stormlighters that you see in the gift section of outdoor shops (and usually hope that someone puts it in your stocking that year).

If the piezo lighter fixed to your stove fails (leave the stove out in the rain and see!), you need one of these.

Works in the wind (for your Cuban cigar), stays dry, shoots a flame under the biggest pot into the lowest of low profile stoves, hangs around your neck as the equivalent of a Bee Gees medallion, easy to fill with lighter fuel (before you go!), lights every time.

I also have a Walmart-special version of this and it is what you would expect from a plastic imitation: poor performance and unreliable.

Essential outdoor bling and the perfect gift for outdoor people and smoking sailors.

Cons: not made of titanium to match my yacht.

Price Paid: GBP 15.00
