User Review: Slumberjack Escape Bivy

Rating: rated 3.5 of 5 stars
Design: three season bivy shelter
Sleeps: 1
Ease of Setup: easy to set up with one person in minutes
Weight: 2 lbs 3 oz
Price Paid: approx $70 (1996)

I have owned and used my Slumberjack bivy shelter (now called the Escape) for going on 10+ years. It is lightweight (just over 2 lbs) and just right for the soloist looking for a quick set up shelter that offers more headroom than a bivy sack but quite a bit less than a tent. There is only room for one for sleeping and reading.

I have had no issues with this bivy other than having to replace the poles once.

It has done well in rains, wind, and snow with the short fly coverage. I have never had an issue with condensation. On clear nights you can pull the fly back and have a full view of the sky above.

While there are as light-or lighter options available today, they come with a price tag 3-4 times the Slumberjack.

It is an essential piece of my light-ultralight backpacking gear and definitely worth looking into.
