The KB-20 is essentially a floating version of the KB-14 handbearing compass, and most of its features and limitations are shared with the latter. Like the KB-14 it is not well suited for use with a map or general land navigation, but rather for marine use as a handheld compass for taking bearings to shore targets to locate one's position. For use on the water, the floating case is handy in case you drop it overboard (though an expensive compass ought to be on lanyard attached to your body if you have any sense at all, shouldn't it?).

Unfortunately, in my experience the KB-20 is not as accurate over time as the aluminum-body KB compasses I have owned, and the KB-20 seems more prone to sticking dials and fragility when dropped than the either the KB-14 or the KB-77. Of course, the KB-20 isn't nearly as expensive, either.
