Summary

Fast reacting, light weight.

Pros

  • Fast reacting
  • Light weight
  • Can be used at night

I use this compass exclusively when on an SAR mission and navigating for a search dog team. It reacts quickly and can be used to get a "close enough" bearing or if more accuracy needed, used as a sighting compass. It also works at night with the luminous markings and that's generally when the dogs are searching so that's important for me.

The lanyard is perfectly sized to hang around my neck and tuck into a shirt pocket when bushwhacking. I have several other compasses but they take some time to settle down for a reading and that doesn't work when trying to keep up with a dog.

I have the global version.

Matchbox size liqued-filled compass with a very tough case.

It's accurate and the mirror can be flipped in his case if you don't need it, so you can see the bottomplate with the lines.

The Recta DP-6 is exactly the same model. Model DP-65(G)lobal can be used worldwide.
