This hoodie is incredibly warm and well built. It comes at a hefty price tag, but I feel it is well worth the price.

Pros

  • Warmth
  • Comfort
  • The hood!
  • Reinforced elbows

Cons

  • Upper sleeves tight
  • Could be longer

This is a really great piece of clothing. 100% merino wool is extremely warm. I received it for Xmas, and have worn it as much as I can without looking like I never change my clothes, although even after five days of wearing, I don't notice any stink, I just feel like I need to wash it.

I find that even during a high wind, it blocks it out. When you start moving and generating some heat, you can really feel it trapping that heat next to your body to keep you warm. The thumb holes make it easier to put on under a jacket, while providing some extra warmth for your hands. Your fingers will be out of luck though.

The hood is incredible — the most roomy hood I've ever had. It makes me feel like a Jedi. Even better is how it lays flat. With traditional hooded pull overs, I find them very uncomfortable unless you pull the hood out over the jacket, which can look bulky. This hood is very streamlined.

The sleeves are reinforced, which should help it resist abrasion and last longer, which it better for the price. Two hand warmer pockets and one chest pocket just big enough to stuff an iPhone into so the battery doesn't die from the cold.

The only things I don't like: the upper arms are tight. You really need to wear it with a compression shirt like UnderArmour. If you have loose sleeves, they will get bunched up (maybe my guns are just too big to fit in it?)

I'd also like it to be longer. I'm just under 6 foot and have an XL. I cannot conceal a firearm under it. If you're looking for a warm cover garment, this won't work. Because it runs a bit tighter, it layers very well, but will print if you have a gun. OWB holsters will definitely stick out the bottom, and even IWB if you raise your arm, the grip will show. The backside is cut longer, so I figured it would hang lower and conceal the grip if I move it farther back, but not so.

Source: received it as a personal gift

I recently purchased the Praetorian Hoodie from TAD and I have to say that I couldn't be happier about it.

I am currently in the US Army Special Forces and my work takes me to just about every environment possible. One thing that I have struggled with is to find outerwear that can be worn in the woods or on missions as well as in the city when it's time to look like a civilian.  So far the Praetorian has accomplished just that.

A few weeks ago I had to go to a water infiltration training exercise in the Rockies. While there we practiced boating techniques and all of us were completely soaked. During the training I wore the hoodie with a waterproof shell on top. The hoodie ended up getting drenched but still kept me warm even after it started snowing! Once we got to our campsite I hung the hoodie next to the fire and it dried out in no time.

I am also getting ready to head back overseas and I plan on wearing the hoodie once it cools down again. Because it's made out of wool it is naturally fire resistant which is a plus when you are out dodging IEDs. The Praetorian has become my goto hoodie from here on out and I definitely won't leave home without it.

Price Paid: $150

The Triple Aught Design Praetorian hoodie is a versatile wool hoodie that can be used by itself on chilly evenings or as part of an effective layering combination. The merino wool is soft and comfortable and has a very clean fit.

One of the features that I really like is the "Aero Hood" which I find to be a little deeper than tradition hoods and fits perfectly over a beanie or hat. The thumbhole cuffs and reinforced elbows also contribute to the usability and aesthetics of the hoodie.

As mentioned by the previous reviewer, the Praetorian blends in very well while around town, but at the same time it can withstand the rigors of the outdoors.
