For only the third time in 33 years Friends have truly changed. The new Helium Friend is lighter and more solid than ever, building on the unique heritage of the most inspired, innovative and copied product in climbing. Stylish, dynamic and ergonomic; the Helium Friend is designed to be the ultimate Friend and has been superbly re-engineered to achieve this aim. At the head, radically revised new hot forged cam lobes shed weight without loss of strength, create more range per unit and optimize the overlaps between sizes. At the base, a new thumb loop, trigger and sling combine to give a smoother action with more reach and extra clipping points. The Helium Friend redefines ease of use. As testament to the first Friends, the Helium stays true to the original, key, immutable concepts, those features Friends did first and best, that have been proved time and again since day one. So the Helium keeps a slick single stem and predictable single axle, a 'floating' trigger design and the awesome holding power of our 13.75 degree cam angle. It is this mix of old and new, classic and radical, of experience and proven design that makes the Helium Friend the most complete cam there is. This is the Friend that completes the sharpest lightest racks, the Friend for the hardest sends and the most insane cracks; the Friend to lead the next generation. Technology, Features and Specifications: Designing the Helium Friends from scratch has made some essential differences to it's features, form and function. Significantly, Helium Friends have got a more concise and ordered range - trimming the number of units to nine - while at the same time each Friend's individual range has increased and importantly so has the overlap between units, both adjacent and alternate. Simply put, this means there's a better chance the unit either side of the one you need but don't have will fit the placement you need it to - more placements with less units! The slick external overhaul also brings big benefits with a new stem/thumb loop making smoother triggering and giving a longer reach per unit, meaning deep placements are easier to place and remove and the new sling should mean less need to extend. However, not scrapping all that went before has also left lots of well tested features, instilling this new unit with an instant confidence and familiarity in the hand and creating a unit with an unrivalled combination of utility, durability and ergonomics. A rackful of Wild Country Tech Friends confidently prepares your trad climbing adventures for offwidthing action in any wide crack. These large Friends feature durable, hot-forged lobes with the original camming angle (13. 75) for maximum versatility in variously sized cracks, and overlapping ranges offer a plenitude of placement options. Its long single stem design keeps each Friend flexible for easy placements, and the floating trigger feels like you're using a smaller cam. The trigger also features independent cam triggering, stops, and a short termination for easy cleaning and to help prevent over-camming, and the full-strength stops let the cam act as a stopper when opened completely. Wild Country added a durable Dyneema sling to the back for convenience, and anodized each cam with a different color for simple organization.
With a flexible cable stem and smooth trigger performance, Wild Country(R) Technical Friends snake into tight placements with speed and ease. Reprofiled, color-coded cams ensure tangle-free racking on long pitches; constant 13.75deg cam angle ensures strong placements. Flexible cable stem with protective nylon sheath balances flexibility and stiffness to allow easier placements without sacrificing control. Increasing cam head widths and consistent spring tension add stability to help reduce walking of cam in or out of cracks and pocket. Color-coded, anodized cams make racking and selection quick and painless; wide expansion ranges extend versatility. Cams are hollowed to reduce weight and lighten your load; smooth-pulling triggers are a cinch to grip and pull and are field-maintainable. CNC machined cams have integrated stops to give passive strength should Friends ''walk'' and the cams fully open. Compact and lightweight 12mm Dyneema(R) sewn slings are used on all sizes; sling break strength of 14kN. Extended trigger mechanisms add reach; anodized cams improve action and resist corrosion. Immensely strong (85TPSI) single nickel chrome molybdenum steel axles ensure that the stem is free to rotate under load. Cam head width becomes proportionally larger as the cam size increases adding stability. Rugged nylon frame supports the flexible stainless-steel stem, offers directional control and leaves the stem exposed for easy inspection. Each cam includes a Wild Country carabiner; carabiner type and color vary depending on size of cam.
Wild Country's Technical Friends cams give the term friend a whole new meaning with their constant 13.75 cam angle, easy-to-distinguish anodized surfaces, and total reliability. With exceptionally smooth trigger action, impressive machined cam stops, and an easily replaceable and field maintainable trigger, they work exceptionally well for shallow placements.
