The Wilderness Equipment 'Countour' is a tough large capacity day pack suited to those who require/desire a day pack of such capacity. The provision for a closed-cell foam mat to be fitted in the rear of the main compartment aids confort as well as providing an ideal place for your map-case. If you carry the contour much less than full it 'can' become a little uncomfortable and is best carried to 'near capacity' (easily padded out with a jacket or similar) as the absence of side compression straps prevents slack being taken up. But I stress that this is a large capacity day pack suited to those who need the space.

The shoulder straps can hurt at the end of a long day if enough weight is carried. I always carry a lot of gear which weighs a lot and will no doubt soon upgrade to the WE Tourjour. However, I have walked countless miles with my Contour and the aforementioned upgrade will be undertaken with decided reluctance. The front pocket accomodates small items (binoculars, insect repellent, spare boot laces etc) but if the pack is full this space becomes tight and not somewhere I'd be stashing my sunglasses. The draw-cord closure of the main compartment allows some space constraints to be exercised (take up a little slack) while the twin webbed straps and buckle allows you to tightly compressed and 'lock-down' your load. The canvas construction (Cordura base) is tough, durable and offers good protection from the elements.

The Contour is a great pack worthy of serious consideration.
